So far, there are no direct flight charters between Hawaii and China. This great move will connect them closely and improve their tourist industry. The flight is expected to take 9 to 10 hours, which will be 5 hours less than the current one with a stopover in Korea or Japan.
Hainan Airlines plans to use 230-seat airbus aircraft, initially with one flight per week. Hawaii officials tell the paper the flights to be aimed primarily at Chinese tourists, which will be a big boost for Hawaii’s tourism since China is the most populous country in the world as well as a fast-growing source of outbound passengers. This non-stop flight is estimated to bring another 10,000 Chinese tourists to the islands of Hawaii. According to the statistics, around 60,000 Chinese tourists visited Hawaii in 2008, over 7,000,000 tourists throughout the world. As demand builds, Hainan Airlines will eventually increase the frequency of the Beijing-Honolulu service to three flights a week.
It is reported that Hainan Airlines has recently received approval from the United States Department of Transportation to launch a direct flight service between Beijing and Hawaii, which is slated to launch in early 2010.
