We had some questions about clubs. It's a tough one for me, because I went through my drinking, partying and out all night phases several (too many!) years ago. I am now happily married and have a relatively low-key nightlife most of the time. However, there are a lot of bachelors here and the question has come up more than once. We need some comments on this - you local readers! What do you think! It is a burning question and needs an answer!
To start to answer the question, I pulled out the New Year's edition of ShanghaiTalk. Under the What's Hip article (great article) - the number one choice was the California Club. That is one viewpoint. A couple of my expat buddies start their night at Windows Too (drinks are cheap) and move on to wherever they think its happening. In one of the rare outings, we were at the Grand Opening night for Duomo - the religion of music, in Jing'an Park. Thumping techno, door hostesses dressed as nuns, Upstairs was Heaven and downstairs...well you know...Hell. Great decor. The manager was busy arranging people, moving the groups to the make way for the opening night names. We got free wine coolers! It was packed. They had some mediocre dancers up on stools. Lots of laowais there that night. Limos and shiny new Buicks pulled up every few minutes. Looks like fun for Shanghai's fashionable nightlife crowd. I think I am more of a O'Malleys type myself. |
