CALIFORNIA CLUB (dancing with hedonistic elegance)
Probably the only club packed with crowds from Monday to Sunday, California Club in Park97 has been the most popular venue since this spring.
The long waiting line outside its gate at the weekend is its speciality. The keywords for California are: 1. Beauties, 2. Red, and 3. House. No cover, except for events.

PEGASUS

Famous for its international student party, Pegasus is one of Shanghai's biggest clubbing venues, and regularly plays host to international DJs. Enjoy a good mixture of clubby music, including hip-hop, R'n'B, pop and Latin on the most comfortable sofas in town. The Chill-Out Room is open on weekends as well as its main room. BUDDHA BAR

Here you can burn some incense before dancing in the pool which is set on tatami. The Buddha statues here and there might cause you to ponder the relationship between Buddhism and Dance. It's one of the few bars to flout the 2am closing rule, and actually hosts few people before 1am. DJ Calvin, said to be the best Techno DJ in China, is here at the weekend.

MAZZO
(dancing up to next morning)
Although possibly the smallest and one of the less popular clubs, Mazzo is a real after-after-hour hangout. If you walk out of Buddha at 3 or 4 in the morning and don't feel like going home, Mazzo will take you in til 9. It's a warm place owned by a DJ couple who will never charge you cover or force you to buy a drink. This is the only place where you can hear drum'n'bass and sometimes Pave Party is held.
