We went to Sasha's because I wanted to see one of those old French Concession mansions. Very nice. Food was great - I had tuna steak and a very unique salad. Another night we came back to a great BBQ buffet in their backyard garden. Not too crowded - unusual for Shanghai. Like most buffets, more food than you can eat - though each BBQ piece was prepared to order after you selected your steak, chop, chicken, or sausage. Price was reasonable.
Bi Feng Tang is one of the most visible restaurants on Nanjing Lu. They always have lots of people. In nice weather, great sidewalk seating gives you the sense of being away from wherever you were in an exotic locale. It is lit up like a Christmas every evening all year round. I have been there several times for dumplings, spicy noodles, and an array of Shanghainese and other Chinese dishes.
Henry's on Tongren Rd is great value for money on their set lunch. Salads are fresh and the ribs (their specialty) are terrific. For RMB 38, you get more than enough to satisfy your lunch cravings. Margaret had the salmon last time. It was a nice piece of salmon and a deal at RMB 42.
Right next to it is Malones. A tasty menu, well prepared and Western prices. Great burgers. Food has always been fresh.
Always Cafe on Nanjing West Rd caters to the Western food crowd. The place is small, so seating is difficult at lunch and dinner, but their extensive menu and reasonable prices make it worth the trip. Even a little sidewalk seating in nice weather. |
