FAQ - Sending Money homeHow can I send money home?Tricky...There are lot of factors at work here. If you're earning a salary in anything other than RMB, wiring or transferring to an account in another bank is doable but pricey (about 30 USD on one end and 15 USD on the other) The best way would be to have your company deposit your salary directly into your foreign account. If, on the other hand, you're being paid in RMB...things don't look so bright. To exchange RMB in China. you'll need to get a receipt from your company proving income tax has been paid on your earnings. And with a lot of the shady dealings going on over here, that's not always possible. There's always the "stuff it in your bag as you go abroad and change it there" approach, which is legal for anything under 5,000 USD or 20,000 RMB per person. Anything more than that is technically illegal, but people have been known to get under the radar. Just remember, if you do get caught, you didn't hear it from us, right? There are also black-market money changers around, though they primarily deal in USD. If you're looking for something a little more "niche" then you may be out of luck in that regard. |
