FAQ - Where to liveWhere are some good places for expats to live in Shanghai?First of all, close to your workplace is the best bet. In the past few years, the Government has relaxed standards on where foreigners can live, so now it's pretty much up to you. With the help of a local you should be able to find somewhere to fit your price bracket, whether it's 10,000 USD or 1500 RMB. For the more expensive options (usually quoted in USD), check out the ads in the expat magazines like City Weekend and That's Shanghai. Most expats live in expat communities with expat-style facilities around Puxi. The more popular areas are Hongqiao and Huanshan Rd. Pudong, the newer and less interesting (in most people's minds) side of Shanghai also has several expats, living way out in Jinqiao and the end of the subway near the Zhangjiang Technology and Trade Zone. Some nice communities are also opening up around the Thomson Golf Course. Of course, if you have children then ensuring you're close to a suitable school is important. There are many international schools around Shanghai, with the majority based around Changning, Minhang or Xuhui districts. If you need major help, then there are several relocation services, such as Autumn Leaves, Going There, and Move and Stay. Again, more can be found in the pages of the expat magazines. |
