You can buy this card at the post office and many shops along the street. A 100RMB card should cost around 30 RMB and a 50RMB card around 15RMB .

However, the internet makes it even cheaper for you to say hi to your family. You can use PC to PC, PC to phone call or web calling (web call need a specific phone set and phone card) Usually PC to PC is free of charge. If you want to make a PC to phone call, you have to set up an account and get charged phone rates.

The 3 types of calling are:

PC to PC: It is a means to communicate through the internet. Both of the two sides need to have a computer installed with specific software(ie, Skype) and also access to the internet.

PC to Phone: This means to call from a PC to a fixed phone. When you want to call abroad, you need to have a PC, installed with a certain software (PC-to-Phone Dialer) and  a prepaid account or a PC-to-Phone Card.

Web Call: This type of calling requires a special phone set designed to call through ADSL. If the two sides have this type of phone set, the rates can sometimes be reduced as much as 50%.

There are two main companies in China: China Mobile and China Unicom.

If you want your mobile phone work both in China and abroad, the following information may help you a lot. There are requirements on your cell phones(see the list) and GSM international roaming needs to be serviced. Check if GSM is available abroad and then go to the China Mobile Service Stations or China Unicom Service Stations to get GSM international roaming service. You can also call 1860( China Mobile) or 10010(China Unicom) to inquire beforehand.
