My problem is burning my downloaded vids onto a DVD, that I can show on my TV (through my dvd player).... I even bought an external dvd burner (pioneer), and purchased Nero 8.... Works sometimes, but not a clean process.... |

Not sure if this will help, but I have a malata DVD player which has a USB port. It plays DivX without any need for conversion, so I can just put a video onto a flash drive and plug it into the DVD player. The player was about 400 RMB, and it also plays DVDs that other players have trouble with. |

Anyone having seeding problems on private tracker VS a public one?
I can seed no problem on public ones up to 50kBs but private ones seem to not connect to me often and when they do, it's very slow like 0.1kBs, etc. Is the ISP here throttling seeding to foreign peers or is there something I can change in my uTorrent settings to correct this? |

I'd like to think users in private trackers are more sophisticated and might be using torrent client plugins that prevent connecting from peers from China.
As for speed, the lower speed in private trackers at least according to "my friend" (I never download torrents!) is because of the lower number of seeds.
Difficult to build good ratio on private trackers from here, or so I heard. |

Thunder is my option. It is featured a vey fast download speed and a priority in speed against other terminals within the same broadband unit. Also, Thunder has a very high upper limit speed up to around 1M/s or higher. It is well known for being most widely applied in China. Very user friendly, very convenient, very applicable and adaptable. |

any good guides out there for optimizing utorrent 1.8?
specifically interested in how to tweak upload/connections/global max connections vs. connection type (upload max.)
how to you gauge your upload max- or your speed in general- properly when you are behind the great firewall? |

A lot of people forget to open a port when using their bittorrent software.... that's the most common reason why you'll see speeds under 2kbs. You need to open up your firewall (software and/or router) and make sure a port is left open.
Since someone brings up Thunder (which I really dislike! it is a big piece of spyware... it will screw up your computer... guaranteed! Especially if you lack a Chinese operating system...) I think I should offer an alternative.
For a much better option... I recommend VeryCD.com in addition with eMule... same basic concept as torrents, but in terms of speed it's going to be the same or better as Thunder (making it basically the fastest way you can download files in China). Best place now for Chinese-only content, but of course, you'll be able to get most mainstream English stuff as well, but just with Chinese subtitles. Caveat: VeryCD.com is all in Chinese, so if you can't read, you may find it difficult to use. |

There is a lot of talk that the tracker Denis Stalker or Dennis Stalker is either fake and / or this guy intends to give you viruses and other non-value related items.
Anyone have any thoughts on this ? First hand experiences ? |

I saw something about that on Engadget about a week ago and have been wanting one ever since. Do you know if it's actually available in Shanghai?
I've been downloading 720p mkv of Dexter this season and this seems like the perfect way to actually play them on my HDTV instead of being limited to just my laptop. |

I'm trying to convert movie files to play (as a DVD or otherwise), and running into some issues. Normally I want to convert avi and rmvb to something playable on my laptop.
I have ffdshow installed, not quite sure what what settings to use. Currently have the file in a MPG format and the sound comes come out ok. When I try to open the file in windows media player it says "connecting to codec" + "sending request for codec" then error downloading codec ..
Any idea what i am doing wrong, and ffdsshow does not seem very user friendly any suggestion ? |
