OK, back from a holiday which included a couple of days in Macau. Hard to get information on the still infant Poker scene there, but here is some info.
3 Venues i visisted that had Poker, although there are some other smaller ones.
1 - Wynns. By FAR the best. 24 hours, but action seems to kick off (slowly) around 11am. Best time around 1pm onwards when new tables are starting up. 10/20 the most popular, 25/50 quite popular with a bit of 100/200 action. Dealers are good, organising staff are VERY good, with a good waitlist system. Very good setup. About 10 tables, but i never saw more than 3 in operation, although the entire town was a ghost town over CNY period. 2 Complaints. Firstly, getting a beer. Plenty of wait staff, but you have to pay 48 for a beer on the poker tables, whilst if you are on the slots, they are free. Secondly, at any given time, about 1/2 the table is full of PokerKNOBS (more on that in a later post)
2 - Star Casino. What a sh1thole. Basically it's Cheers (everybody knows everyone else). Great looking Poker room though. Supposedly 24 hours, up there at midday, not a sole and was asked to come back about 3 or 4. Went back later that night, was put on a 10/20 table. The dealers are the WORST ever. 2 of the people on the table were friends with all the staff (related or having sexual relations) and were basically helping the dealer. Picking up chips, racking cards, telling her whats on side pot etc.. VERY frustrating and annoying. They were all getting up, moving around, changing money, taking chips off the table. Worst poker joint in the world.
3 - Closely followed by Lisboa. This joint proves that money can't buy class. Infact, it proves that the more money you have the less class you assume. As you walk into this monstrosety of a place, there is a massive bronze bust of Stanley Ho. Absolute TACK. Then you enter the place and it gets worse. From the pathetic chandelliers to the bikini clad russian dancing girls to the absolute worst uniforms i have seen. ALL of the dealers look like security guards. Oh yeah, the worst is the valet out the front. He looks like a cross between a William Shakespear play and Blackadder I. I walk up to the Poker Room (VERY difficult to find) and find amateur hour. Their table waiting software was up on the big screen. EXCEL. Yep, just an excel spreadsheet, probably put together by Stanley Ho's grandson for kindergarten class. 1 table going, i left.
Bottom line, Wynn's is the ONLY place for Cash game poker. The others could be ok if there was a proper tournament. Apparently a tournament had just finished the week before at Star. |

I love a game of Texas Holdem as much as the next person, but recently i've seen a massive influx of the "PokerKNOB". Not just here, but in the past 6 months i've played in Aus, US and Macau.
The PokerKNOB is that person that you don't know whether to cringe at or laugh at. They play the lowest limit table, yet think they are gods gift to the card.
But, i hear you ask, how do you spot a PokerKNOB? Well my friends, there are a few simple rules.
1 - He is wearing a Hoodie, with the hood up over the top of his head. This is a sure sign that the person on the other side of the table is a PokerKNOB.
2 - Sunglasses, indoors. If you have to hide your eyes, then perhaps you shouldn't be playing with the big boys
3 - Listening to MP3 player. OK, i can forgive the subtle iPod with the little bud type earphones, but a true PokerKNOB will have those big type of Earphones (Usually coming out of his Hoodie). The music will also be so loud that you can also hear it.
4 - And this one is a massive generalisation, I know, and i don't want to offend, HOWEVER, from what i have observed, 98% of ABC's (Australian Born Chinese & American Born Chinese) are definitely PokerKNOBS, Especially the Americans. I think it must be the mixture of the Gambling Gene from the Asian side and the Arrogant side from the American side. Take a look around and listen next time you are playing, and you'll see what i mean. Usually they can also be seen with either a Hoodie, Sungalasses or the Big earphones, confirming this status.
5 - Bragging about how "they play poker every single day". Get a life!
6 - Recalling how last week they got bad beaten on their 2/7 offsuit that hit trips on the flop but was Rivered by someone else who had pocket rockets.
So please everyone, be aware of these PokerKNOBS, and also, know the signs so that you also do not turn into one. |

Any games on tonight/ Friday?
Played Tue at Spot, but lost AA to KK all-in on pre-flop, flop got me a A , Q, 8, then 10. Other guy rivered a straight, lucky barstool.
Now where do I buy meself a hoodie? |

The Knobs are everywhere. I've seen many at the Spot on Mondays.
And you can blame all those damn Texas Hold 'em Tournaments they air on every channel in the USA. Plenty of weirdos on there.
Don't get me wrong, I love poker, I have chips, and I love to play, but the knobs I just can't stand. |

Yes, the Spot is the favoured hangout of the PokerKNOB for sure. You can add anyone French on there as well, especially the tools at the Spot. |

www.absolutepoker.com is actually pretty good. Never really had a problem. If you can't download the software, just play the No Download (Flash) version. Works fine. |

Does anyone know of any games in Beijing? I will be there for a week starting from today and would like to play evenings.
FYI I've searched Google and on forums, no luck.
Thanks... |

not if their (non-KNOB) opponents are no better (or only marginally better) than they are. |
