Agree with that 100%. I also used to live in Guangzhou for 3 years, and had to move to Shanghai in 2000. I can make a good comparison, and Guangzhou is definitely better. |

I also worked in Guangzhou 4 yrs ago, I love cantonese, the languages which I started learning when I was 13 yrs via recorder and tapes, but so far no chance to practice. Guangzhou has pretty nice and proper climate I did like, the green plants everywhere and clear blue sky most days. r u native of Guangzhou or also migrant? beside these. nice food there always. every morning, zao cai and dimxin. the restaurants everywhere, the liang cai booth everywhere where sells the very hard to drink but every cantonese told me it's good to our health and body. but the wrost and terrible thing to this city is the terrible security. I have seen some robbery in the terrible high noon even the Sunday noon, I witnessed the whole process in a crowded bus on high noon of a Sunday, gave me an unforgettable memory so far, although after that ppl told me this was just a very small case, of course more terrible crimal cases heard and happened everywhere even in downtown when I was there the whole yr. thanks God, the whole yr, I never ever was robbered or stolean, ppl said that due to my looking already told all the robbers and thieves that I am a quite poor. another thing about Guangzhou is that time namely four yrs ago, when I wanna to find a Japanese restaurants to have Japanese food, I cant find a few, only one or two, and also that time I only found one starbuk coffee shop in Guangzhou Garden Hotel in which I almost found all the foreingers who I know in my school that time, though now I heard from my students the starbuks like the mushroom after the spring rain, are located everywhere.
About Shanghai, I do love this city. I think here you can find any kinds novel, modern or most current trend. of course, our city is still in develping, we cannot deny, but we should allow this city keep going, right? I think most foreingers do love shanghai compare with the other cities in china, cuz here they can find the most familiar life style which can compare with their western countries. also according to the news it is the favorite city the most foreigners like. compare to Guangzhou. I found two difference, one is much more modern and fashionable than gz, no matter the city arrangment or ppl's appearance even ppl's dress up, guangzhou ppl never pay attention to their dress or clothes very much, hope no offend, I just say what I saw before, maybe now changed very much. they always wear blue jean pants and white t shirt etc the whole yr plus a pair of sports shoes, if possible even just a sandals. the second is you definitely cannot find your liang cai booth or so many kinds of cantonese style restaurants as in ur canton any more. here no liang cai booth, even the liang cai you drink definitely totally different from what you drink in canton, much sweeter, and ppl here dont like to drink. here no cantonese any more, every one speaks mandarin or shanghai dialect or maybe diffferent foreign languages. here we have 4 seasons not ur canton, all the yr almost the same. so u finally can see the tree leaves show their color change, and weather change and also very terrible cold winter, u need change ur bed stuffs and clothes according to the weather, namely u have to prepare some sums of money in this aspect. last, I'd like to sing high praise for is our comparatively good security. thats ture, if u have been staying china for more than 20 yrs, I think u will definitely agree my view, of course, no place is 100% safe, but comparatively, here's security is good. |

The main reason, no the only reason, I am not going back to Guangzhou is that I can sail here in Shanghai. Other than that I would have gone back any time. |
