A woman wearing Clingfilm & running backwards on a treadmill to tone her calves was my all time favourite sight.
Man I miss the burst of belly laughter at Physical, was good for the soul. |

do you miss the inefficency of their service. for the next 3 days the huihai physical will be closed due to no power. but at least we got a good warning. so i guess it training at the xjh physical with the short shower curtains.
Also, why is the spin room heated to 30 degress. i went in to have a ride whilst no class was on and it was 30 according to the thermometer. and there is no cooling/fans in the cardio area. obviously ohs or duty of care is still something the chinese haven't worked out yet. supposedly the chinese don't sweat as much as others yet. thats crap as they leave there stains on everything the touch despite the fact that they train at the intensity of sloth |

People at the gym who annoy me are those who:
1. Don't rack the weights after they're done using them. C'mon, how much simpler can it be? Just put the weights back where you got them from.
2. Grunt unnecessarily loudly. It's cool you're making the most of your workout, but keep in mind other people are working out too. There's this guy at my gym who sounds like he's having a goddamn orgasm when he lifts. Attention whore...
3. Sit on benches or machines while yappin on their cell phones.
4. Don't use enough deodorant. Some folks have some serious B.O. problems.
5. Don't wipe down the benches or machines when they're done. Few things are more disgusting than a puddle of someone else's sweat on the bench.
6. Leave their towels on the benches or machines for an extended period of time (15+ min)
7. Choose to lift unnecessarily close to you. That **** is dangerous.
8. Don't bring a towel to the shower and come back to the locker area dripping wet. |

Blow dryer to the nuts = #1. preemptive strike against jock itch.
Pooping in the shower = Until I see it, I won't believe it.
Grunting while working out = Just about everybody I know who's had "competitive" backgrounds do this from time to time. I actually coached a college level sport way back when. Sometimes, I find myself going, "Come on Captain! Let's go! One more set!!" (Then I go . . . "WTF! I'm such a freak!")
Sex in the steam room = If you can sneak a girl in there, it ain't so bad. Lots of natural lube and the heat/dehydration gives you a bit of a high.
Helping each other "lift" = It's called spotting. Many ways to do it but I have never seen anybody do this correctly in a recreational gym. Normally, you would assist the lifter at a set cadence for positive motion. When going negative, you'd let him go on his own . . . again for a certain count.
Guys checking out the cock = I'm used to it. So when a guy stares in the sauna or wherever, I just casually approach him like I don't even notice he's there. Then I stretch my legs a bit, swing it around a bit. Waist twisterizers. Back benders. . . Until the guy is like, "WTF?!?!" (When I think he's had enough of the show, I walk away but sometimes you get the real gay guys who stare even more)
Bare ass on the bench = China doesn't really seem to have any cultural hygiene codes period. In Japan and Korea, personal hygiene means you keep yourself clean from "dirt". So once they bathe, wash, clean with soap, their body itself is considered clean. The Western World's personal hygiene code is more of a battle against "germs" so they tend to freak out about contact with others. |

I see guys that put on maybe two or three 45lb weights (20kg) on each side only to have their spotter help them with every single rep while they grunt like the man they are. What's up with that? IMO you should only bench what you can handle. (This one crosses all nationalities) |

There's probably little reason for this in a recreational gym but what they were probably doing were "negatives". Meaning, the spotter helps the lifter up but on the way down, the lifter does all the work (the spotter just makes sure that the guy doesn't get squashed)
When done right, this is actually a very efficient method to gain strength in a short time frame.
This is why so many of those machines actually have auxiliary pedals. The guy who developed the "Nautilus" machines was a very big fan of negative exercises. |

Ahh...negatives...who would've ever thought. At first I thought they were maxing out, but then I realized that they're doing almost 10 reps and 3 sets. |

People grunting at the gym can be disturbing but they are doing hard exercises, if you feel intimidated by someone grunting then man up.
Buy an Ipod - almost everyone has one these days and you can block out the retard waves from other people.
Chinese...are...Chinese...if you cant accept the way they are then move out of China, I don't think all the disgusting things they do are right or good in any way but we are in their country and just because they sign up at a gym that western people go to doesnt mean they will change their sense of hygiene or etiquette or suddenly understand western ideals.
Will's Zheng da guang chang (super brand mall - lujiazui) I haven't many problems there, I've been going there for 4 months and have only seen one guy blow drying his little friends and some people muff up putting the weights back but thats not so hard to fix.
IMO Most people in this thread are bitching like a bunch of pussies, man up and just get on with it instead of whining.
Oh and people who drop weights are working to their limit - its not that they are trying to do more than they actually can, its a common training technique, dents on the floor.......thats managements problem for not having the proper flooring. |

If you dont like it move out of China, how many times has that been posted, and a total w*nk statement. The chinese goverment themsleves are tring to change the way the local population behave as they have travelled and seen how the chinese behaviour is very much lookded down upon and ridiculed by many countries. If people did not highlight the faults of behaviour then they will never change. Many habbits are disgusting and cause disease spread (sars, tuberculosis, flues ect a long list) the goverment has tried to change them such as Spitting it is still illegal in public places, just the law is never enforced (like many others).
Speak to some high ranking goverment officials and see what they say on the matter. They appreciate constructive critisisums (on occasions) from westerners/foreigners living and working within China. They dont want to be classed as the worlds rich peasants with peasant like behaviour. |

well, i hope they do see the difference between a toilet and the shower.
I haven't seen it so far but thats because i am going to the gym the early morning only. That is the best time to avoid all the "funny" things that do happen. In the beginning i used to shower at home as well cos the showers at Physical Gym at People sq. are simply too dirty and i don't feel like getting a disease.
But now going there in the morning its peaceful, no loud music from whatever goes on downstairs, the showers are dry when i step in, i don't have to search for the dumbbells and above all no line up for a machine to attend.
I don't know about the other Physical gyms but recently the one on people sq. started a massive discount 6 months for only 500RMB. Since than the gym got flooded by all sorts of tryout tourist basically occupying the machines. That most of the chinese are selfish is no surprise to me and that the management lacks the gym goers who do try to take it more serious is just another statement. |

Wow. I wasted a good hour reading this thread, but it was worth the laughs
The things that annoy me in a gym are people:
Who make machines all sweaty and don't wipe them off.
People who piss on the floor.
People who overflow the toilets..
People who spit in the fountains.
People who spit in the sinks.
People who never put anything back where they got it.
People who drop and break the dumbbells.
People who complain that the dumbbells are broken.
People that piss in the shower.
People that piss in the pool.
People that don't shower before going into the pool.
People that leave dirty underwear on the benches.
People that leave used dirty bandages lying around benches and floor.
People that leave snotty tissues on the tables.
People that leave sweaty tissues on the tables.
People that wear outside shoes in the gym.
People that throw their garbage on the floor.
People that wear all too revealing outfits.
People that don't wear shirts.
People that leave massive hairballs in sinks and on the floor.
People who never set the scale to '0' when they've finished.
People who don't towel off before walking cross the locker room.
People that sit around naked much too long
And, I've probably forgotten a few.....
Oh, I've never been in a Chinese gym. These are the just the disgusting things Westerners do in their home country's gyms...
Gyms are dirty places and many patrons are dirty as well. I guess it's just gym culture |

Had 2 good ones last week at Zhonghshan Park Tera Wellness - a guy smoking in the changing rooms (thankfully one of the cleaners told him to put it out, which he did). 5 minutes later, the same cleaner just sitting on one of the few changing room benches, cutting his toe nails and leaving them all over the floor.
Now I know why everyone wears those communal flip-flop sandal things! |

I love this thread, lots of good stories! Man I miss a good gym where people have mutual respect and help each other. That people get it on in saunas happens anywhere in world I guess, especially in mixed saunas.
I am so happy that my Will's Gym is in the same building as my apartment. No need to use the locker room or showers. Haven't had much issues there. I am just seriously worried about most folks in there lifting weights totally the wrong way and nobody gives them proper introduction or explains things. These people basically pay to screw up their backs. After all gyms are dirt cheap here.
Generally I think by just saying or asking for things you can get all you want. If somebody occupies something for too long a nice "done?" or "can you do it over there?" helps. The staff would also turn down the #*(#$& gym dance music when it's too loud so I can listen to my own stuff. |

at Wills gym in zhongshan park, this certain personal gym trainer is really annoying. He hates me. When I was cycling i turned my head and saw him and another personal instructor pointing at me and talking in silence (very mature), and then today the girl by the counter was talking in the phone so she couldnt let me in to the gym. the personal instructor was standing there and just looked at me with a grin and did not open for me. He is such a tosser. want to kick his ass.
he's only mad at me because I rejected him being my private trainer. |

thats sick, i only do that at home!! i would never do that in public, but then again, the locals have no shame!! |
