Shanghai Bus Routes and Subway map links - either a sticky or linked
http://www.shanghaiexpat.com/MDForum-viewtopic-t-93813.phtml
Maybe this was suggested but a Custom Google Map showing all the western supermarkets and other useful shopping locations like the Hotel Supply shop etc would be great. |

Dating stuff, not the crappy link to whatever commercial site with fake pics as you have now. Special section for swingers, too. With mobile access and GPS functionality, so our phones vibrate when we meet a match in the street etc. We need that. All free, but you will get more traffic so presumably sell more ads. |

You can do that. Click the thing that looks like a target below right. |

Add a "naked" button in the photo albums. I heard Microsoft has that technology embedded in .NET already, so should be easy. Great if it could also be used for photos posted in the threads, though I understand this would require more development. Thanks. |

Feature suggestion: consider adding review capabilities of listed vendors (e.g., language schools in the yellow pages). This would help organize feedback so folks can more easily find comments.
Downside is that it might be a little awkward for vendors. However, see yelp.com for a US example where this works well to aggregate reviews. |

It would be great if an OP can ban certain users from posting on "their" thread. I have seen instances where innocent threads are hijacked by certain users who turn it into a huge slinging match, as well as some instances of pretty vulgar posts, which have absolutely nothing to do with the original topic. It's usually the same users that do this, and for OP's to ban them from their threads would help clean up some of the threads and make them more shorter, specific, and easier to search in the future. |

Yeah I like that - I will be opening threads then ban everyone
But seriously - I do not think this sofwtare make this possible, even Vbulletin, which is like Rolls-Rolce of forums (this one is like Santana) does not have such feature but probably could do a hack... |

I would like some kind of "Spoiler"-function, ie you have can write a caption over a box, then you have to click the button next to it to actually see the text. Might help to talk about stuff that we are unsure if the firewall will catch... |

Its coming. We finally have a beta with about 70% of functionality we planned for, the forum migration script, and a lot of content migration being worked on. The new system is pretty much designed from scratch front and backend so it is taking a bit of time, but we are excited as we see it start to take shape. At some point in the next few weeks we will have a handful of members help with our beta run through and bug smashing process. |

This won't work to avoid the firewall. in most implementation of this feature the text is still there it would just have a <spoiler> type tag in front of it. You would have to convert it to a jpg or something if you wanted to hide it from the firewall. |

^Well, yeah, that was not really the main idea though (just an additional perk if it worked). I don't know how the filters work for the firewall. |

I've been here a year and find much of the information that I've needed on Shanghai expat. However, most of replies to topics are years old. I think that they should be edited out, or the information should be updated and that a forum just for newbies and for shopping (costs, reputable vendors, concise locations) should be added. It is a little tiring weeding through all the smart-ass answers as well. I'd like to help if it's needed. There are a lot of us out here that aren't typical tai-tai's, and being able to only get up to date information on the latest bar opening is a pain in the behind.
Thanks |

We WANT YOUR Ideas and Suggestions for ShanghaiExpat
Hi All
We are in the process right now of deciding what to do with the next version of the Shanghaiexpat website. We want to get your feedback and ideas on how to make the site better, more useful, easier to navigate, or anything else that would help us help you to have a better experience.
You can post here or you can PM or email me. |
1) It will be great if you add a section of business reviews, so we can all be aware of places that systematically screw up expats so we can avoid them. Right now we need to dig a little to find them (yes, I got that I should not got to Benson's). We can have a section for good places as well, but having the bad places listed will be awesome.
2) Some for 'survival tips' for the most frequently asked questions, so people can go there and see if they got the answer already, it will save a lot of time.
Obviously this ideas require extra work from the moderators |

A simple and easy suggestion is to increase the inbox/sent out box Private Message limits. I am running out of space (started 2005) and would rather not have to go and delete old messages. |

Why not delete 4 year old messages? Are they really that important?
How about putting an advanced search option. ie, so i can get rid of results that haven't had a response/update in 4 years. |
