Does anyone have suggestions on setting up a bank account for a US-registered company without a rep office in China?
We'd like to have at least a USD/RMB account.

Very simple. I have opened accounts all over China. I suggest you go to Gong Hang. The full name is the Commercial Bank of China. Large red letter's can't miss it. Anyways, you take your passport, copy of visa (take 2 passport photo's, I'v never given them but just in case"
Next tell them you want to open a USD account, that can receive transfers from the USA.
MAKE SURE that the name on your passbook is the same as you passport. ALSO it is imperative that the USA sender writes your name EXACTLY as the bank book. For example if your name is John Q. Public, Jr. The bank passbook will probably read Jr., Public John Q.
However they print it in the passbook is "right".
Anyways, now that you the account, give hte USA sender the Name of the bank, street address, and telephone number.
When the money arrives you can withdraw either USD, or they can exchange it to RMB. Be warned, if you withdraw the money in USD, and then exchange it you do not receive the best rate. It is best to take it out as RMB.
Anyways, make sure you get the ATM card when you open the account. If you don't do it initially, it may be difficult (or impossible) to do so later.
