Post subject: China Web Hosting

Hi All,

I'm looking to host my web site in China (so that it is quicker to access by locals - including myself).

Can anyone recommend a reliable and reasonably priced Chinese (maybe even Shanghainese) web host?

Thanks,

Alex

You could also choose an overseas one like www.netpivotal.co.uk

Have a look at it the service is good and browsing from China is no problem at all.

I'm also interested in Web hosting services and would like to look at a range of options. Basically I need something that's reliable and not blocked.

I'd appreciate unbiased feedback from people who currently use a Web hosting service.

You should probably be a bit more precise about what you are searching for.

... A dedicated server or just a place where u can upload static HTML site .. what kind of application? If it is dynamic then what kind of hardware do you require? what kind of bandwitdh do you expect to need ... and so on...

I've rented fairly good virtual servers from two companies that I found on taobao. Price was about 300 RMB a month. But the service was crap with both companies. They kept rebooting the server without notifying us which was pretty anoying because some of our services needed to be started manually.

So, another factor for finding the right hoster is how much "service" means to you.

Hope I did not waste my time answering Razz seems that hostplan4U's post is probably some setup for spam ...

I'd like to set up a blog, so I imagine I don't need anything that fancy.

If the technology is functional, I won't require much in the way of service. On the other hand, if things are constantly breaking down, then I'd like to get a hold of someone to fix the problem.

Sorry, no experience on this end of the hosting spectrum ... but if you are not interested in managing your own wordpress or similiar you can just register for an account on http://www.xici.net/ to open your blog there, if I am not mistaken ... never tried it though Smile

Also.. keep in mind you will need to get appropriate licenses for your site. Some specific types of content might require certain specific type of licenses - like forums or dating sites.

Our experience here was not good... though it may have gotten better probably since the last time we tried. There does seem to be a couple of capable provider who post on this board.

Every domainname needs a license to legally host here and they rejected give a license even for my legit Waigaoqiao registered company, anyway my US server is quick enough

I can confirm that. Previously it was relatively easy to get ICP licenses (sharing with an existing one), or use a local contact to do the registration even for business sites, now you need to have a registered company and provide all relevant business license, registration address information before you are able to get it. Many clients of us previously hosted in mainland China have seen their sites shut down and been forced to move to HK or the US.

We are also a China based Hosting / Web services provider.

While its true that the government is now rigorously enforcing the ICP registration requirement, its not that hard to comply if you are a legal entity here.

We're in the process of rolling out our support pages for foreigners here:

http://icp.computersolutions.cn/en (English)

Shared licenses are still permitted (eg 1 business owner can own multiple domains).

Shared licenses with different site owners are subject to validity checks, and if found to have incorrect information, or one site does not comply, that license will be revoked, and all sites using it will be subject to mandatory closure.

The government is keeping a close eye on the internet these days, and we have been seeing daily checking in our logs from the various departments, as well as the usual telephone calls to check details.

Our contacts at the relevant bureaus have also told us to take extra care to ensure that everything has a valid license and all content is legal.

PM me for details on our hosting and other services.
