FYI
It appears you can get a 24 months L visa multiple entry, 90 day stay if your spouse is Chinese. I'm back in The US for a couple of weeks our Chinese Travel agent has applied for me ,should be no problem, I will let you know how it works out, it is the same price as the 1 year. Note you have to apply outside China, you need copy of marriage cert, and spouses Chinese passport, |

Have to leave Shanghai for what reason? As far as I understand it she will have no problem to stay in Shanghai. However as she has no visa, when you leave China you will need to get her an exit permit / visa from the PSB so that she can leave the country. She will then need a visa when she comes back into China as do all foreign nationals. |

So your problem is not that the procedure for foreign nationals is that they need a valid visa, but that you cannot afford to take time off for your child to get one? Well, your WIFE could be the one to leave the country.
Quick visa run to HK via Shenzheng may be the cheapest route. |

So for babies that are born in China but with a foreign passport, how long can they stay without a visa? I wasn't aware of any time limit as such. I just know that an exit permit is needed when leaving the country. |

Just went to renew my residence permit for the 3rd time and I just found out about the self-service machines available for those that need to renew their residence permits. What would have taken me all day (I had #178, they were serving #93/94) only took me about 5 minutes including the wait time.
Procedure is to go up the escalator and turn right 180 degrees....the units are in the far corner to the left (3 or 4 of them). Enter your current residence permit number, make sure all the information that pop up on the screen is correct, and print out your ticket. Go back to the queue ayi and get your 'D' ticket and wait for your number to be called. Make sure you have all the documents signed and chopped...piece of cake.
Oh....and I guess they're opened this Sunday (9/27) due to the rush before holidays. |

Saturday is a really busy day at the visa office. If you get there and find that there are over 150 people in front of you, you may want to go for a walk up Yingchun Lu (the direction away from the subway) where there are lots of restaurants and a few shopping centres (about 4 blocks I think). Or even head there when you are finished for some lunch. |

It says:
"Duration of Each Stay '000' Days After Entry"
However, I believe no matter what type of visa one holds, one is still limited to 30 days unless one acquires a Foreign Resident Permit.
When I had an 'L' visa it said:
"Duration of Each Stay '060' Days After Entry"
Thanks, Paul |
My L Visa, obtained in June 09, says "060" days. That means I have to leave every 60 days. |

....good idea, but be warned, if you miss your number, you have to get another ticket and go to the back of the queue. |
