Post subject: 2nd gen iphone won't turn on.

i have a problem, and i'm hoping some of you might be able to shine some light on the issue i have here.

here is the story.

I have had my iphone for close to 2 years now, and it was working fine last night before i went to sleep. When i was going to sleep, i put it in the charging dock, and left it there with my alarm settings for the morning alarm. I woke up this morning before my alarm went off, so i grabbed my iphone to check the time. I pressed the home button, the screen remained black. I thought what the hell???

Then i went to press and hold the power button, it won't turn on either. and then i pressed and held the power and home button together, to my delight, the shiny apple logo showed up, and it was booting up. I left it there, and went to the bathroom.

When i came back, i grabbed the phone to check the time, and again, it's blank, nothing, when i press either the home or power button. So i did the holing the power and home button routine again, and it started booting up again.

and as i was leaving for work, i grabbed the phone, and checked again. it's once again blank. and this time when i tried the home and power button routine, it did not work. I have been trying everything, and nothing have made it turn back on again.

Please someone know what the hell is going on with it.

Thanks in advance.

If its not a US one, try doing a restore in iTunes.

If its a 2G, no problem to unlock again.
If its a 3G or 3Gs, don't do that, you'll need to use a special firmware using PwnageTool.

If the restore doesn't bring it back to life, try putting it into DFU mode, and trying the firmware restore again.

DFU Mode howto:

You sure that it is actually charged? Perhaps it was sitting in your iphone dock properly? Try pluggin it in to the USB on your computer.
