Dalian is in Northeast China, not cold in winter? I once toured in Dalian in Feb, the wind was so strong that we have to walk hand in hand Shocked Shocked , though the city looks pretty and clean.

yes,and generally there are like 4 to 5 Unis that most overseas students go to. most students go to a language university(Dalian uni of Foreign languages) ,u can either choose to get a bachelor degree for 4 years or simply choose a one year or six months language training course. it's in the very center of dalian,(recently, the majority of the uni moves to the new campus which is in the outskirt of the city, but only 50 minutes to the city center by bus). other unis like Technology Uni, Liaoshi(normal) Uni, Jiaotong(transportation) Uni, Medical Uni are all about 30 to 50 minutes to the city center. since Dalian is quite small, a taxi can take you from one end of the city to the other within 30 kuai rmb, so it really doesn't matter whether the uni is in the the center or not. If you don't want to major in Language, there are other course just like a normal uni will have. for the cost, can't remember exactly how much, but it will probably posted on the uni's website.
btw, the city is small, pretty and quiet, also modern and young. compare to SH, a place with a slower pace and easy way of life.

Dalian has no sailing facilities, so it's out for now.

Not quite true. If you want to sail there, just PM me and I will make intro's to make it happen.

No worries - no cost, I am not an agent or commission-hunter. Only I have buddies there who boat-build and sail.

My friend and I were there in May last year, we didn't expect it to still be cold, and both of us got sick after the first day of walking around the city.

Despite the cold weather, it also became my favorite city in China. People there are more polite and kind, the city is very clean, has great seafood and some beautiful new residential areas with sea view.
