Dear Dr. Love,
Hi and hello to you Dr. Love.
Cristy |

Dear Cristy,
Nasaan ka ba talaga? Singapore o Shanghai?
Eniway, tungkol sa problema mo, pabayaan mo siya... huwag kang magpadala ng pera... tingnan natin... he he...

.Dear Dr. Love,
Please hide my identity and simply call me Lara, a 31 year-old housewife.

^^ Depende sa lifestyle mo, and what you can afford.
Here are my conservative estimates:
Food: RMB 30-50 per day (breakfast, lunch, and dinner, including drinks)
Transpo: RMB 10 by subway (taxi is more difficult to estimate as it will depend on your fro and to points)
Housing: RMB 3500 a month (1BR apartment in a so so/OK area)
Of course, these could go higher or lower. It's all up to you, boy. |

Yeah, more or less..
sa food nga lang, living on 50 a day is living really cheap if you eat outside.
If you can cook, this will be fine.
and ,,,the above figures excludes occasional nightlife and good time, which can eat up a chunk of your salary. Which you need or mapra-praning ka dito |

^^ yes, absolutely on the conservative side - not really cheap as I can still eat 3 times a day at only, say, less than 20 (excluding drink - tubig na lang). Ayaw ko lang to sound kind of arrogant to say like, one lunch at Grand Hyatt is CNY 350. Syempre, di naman everyday dun kumakain. And not every party night costs 4 grand, mostly (for me) just a couple of hundreds including transpo. |

Largest call center in the world opens in RP
Convergys Glorietta 5 is attached to a shopping complex. The facility has a total floor area of 17,000 square meters. It has 2,041 seats which could be ramped up to 3,500 to accommodate future client demand.
With the new facility, Convergys said it now employs 17,500 BPO workers in the country, making it the largest call center employer in the Philippines.
It will soon add another 300 seats at its UP-Ayala Land TechnoHub site in Quezon City, and inaugurate a 300-seat site in San Lazaro, Manila, early next year. |

Thats more than $2,000 which is not bad
IF you are single This salary is fine.
BUT
How long is the contract?
Is the company stable?
Uso ngayon ang retrenchment dito, you might be moving from the frying fan to the fire if the company you will be working is not stable.
These are things to consider, but if you are young and adventurous...well who cares, just do it!!!
3,500 for rent..can be 2000 to 2500 if you share
3000 a month for transpo and food (say average 100 a day)
1000 for contingencies, just in case...
say, 7,500 a month in expenses
so you will have around 10K in savings.
But
- China tax?
- return tickets home?
- Medical insurance? This is important
Good luck...paiinumin kita if you make it |

Agree, especially dun sa retrenchment part - I just got laid off. This is what I've learned: make sure your contract states your compensation and benefits - pati in case of early termination - and I hope the company has its own policy/guideline when it comes to that. Kasi in my case, we just have to follow what the Chinese law says, and it sucks dahil the severance pay is capped to 3x the average local salary (kung higher ang salary mo, and 18K is def higher). If the company doesn't have that - insist to include in your contract that if early termination happens (like lay off), your compensation will be based on your last month's salary. Malaking difference.
Bro, if you make it within this year, baka gusto mo i-occupy yung spare room ko? I need to cut costs kasi dahil wala na ko trabaho, at naghahanap pa. Mga kabayan, baka may alam kayo - nasa writing/editing and marketing field po ako. Salamat. |

We should organize a club SDS
Samahan ng mga Downsized sa Shanghai
with a slogan
"I was downsized, so size does matters"
Na retrench din ako pero pirated yung customers ko, so the customers are directly dealing with me now not my former company. Back with a vengeance.... |

Try:
Shanghai Expat Jobs- website
Job market even for Chinese or expat professionals is tough this year, but you might be lucky
unless, you try waiting tables, mixing drinks, or teaching "English" till you get an office job agaion |

^^ Thanks - I'm not so comfortable posting my resume online, though, and I believe that's how one can apply to jobs through the careers section of shanghaiexpat.
On another note... anybody wants to grab dinner sometime this week? Tagal na ko di naka-interact with Pinoys (except maybe at some restaurants/bars), eh. |
