Koreans, esp Korean men, are total a-holes. I've dated a few Korean girls, and taking Seoul subway with them was exactly like the article says. The girls are v pretty but also have the nationalist weirdness, saying things like "it's well known that Korean potatoes are the greatest in the world" like it's a fact. I once had a Korean man drunkenly ranting at me that although Koreans have smaller penises than westerners, they make up for it by having the "strongest semen in the world". Erm, ok sir, please don't feel the need to prove that to me now, thanks.
Doesn't take a genius to work out what's going on, their country has been used as a doormat by everyone else it's whole history, it's the ultimate example of short man syndrome. I know how obnoxious US soldiers stationed overseas can be, but it's kind of weird to see how much S Koreans hate Americans when if it wasn't for the US their country would have been wiped out long ago (I'm not American or a militarist but facts are facts people). |

My western gf had a Korean boyfriend for awhile. He was a study abroad student in the states and then she visited his family for a week or so. He basically followed her around all the time, telling her when to shower, what to eat, nagged her to stop swimming because it was putting muscles on her arms, asked her to tell other girls in English that he thought they were hot, told her that his sister (who she was friends with) said she smelled, and basically made it his life mission to change or control every tiny detail about her and her appearance, after telling her that he loved her. She ended up leaving the house, staying in a hostel and never speaking to him again. He seemed to enjoy seeing how much he could boss her around.
I feel for Asian guys who have to buy a house or whatever before they can get married, but the guys who act like complete psycho monsters / little princes and then complain because Asian women run off with foreigners definitely don't get any sympathy from me. |

I knew a girl who lived in Korea and dated/slept with a bunch of guys..same story as what Vesper said. They have some serious gender/social issues it seems. She also said they weren't packing much at all down there.
Some Koreans are great looking but the majority have got some serious ugly to them (men and women). All the pretty ones (girls) work for Korean Air- that's for sure. |

Korean women also tend to be horrible prudes in bed. Many of them have adopted the Catholic religion, which gives the horrible extremes of complete slut or total prude. Often times Korean girls are both, and require a bit of liquor to unlock the magic door that let's them have sex for fun. =P |

Having said all this about Korea, as soon as enough Indian or black guys start marrying Chinese girls we'll see the racist insults start to fly. China for a long time could use the excuse that it was isolated and people were only racist out of harmless ignorance, but that excuse is running out of shelf life. As China 'develops', attitudes to other races are not evolving in step, in fact they seem to be going backwards. In the last couple of years China has been giving Korea a run for its money in the mindless nationalist bigotry stakes, and my bet that this will only increase as China decides to believe its own hype about being the new superpower and all that. So don't get too smug about racism in China yet, franceswang. |

Yeah, South Korean's are extremely racist, sexist, and ageist. They have a classic underdog complex. It matters more what people think than what is actually true there. They shun the disabled, the elderly, the divorced, singles over 30, and homosexuals. They are the biggest gossip hounds on the planet. They beat their kids and the public school system still uses corporeal punishment. And they have the highest suicide rate in the industrialized world! Is anyone surprised???
I think the North couldn't be much of a harder place to live 
A friend of mine went to North Korea to make a documentary. When he came back to China he had a similar impression of the North and blamed it on the Government, that is, until he went to South Korea and found out the people acted the same there
But I also have many Korean friends... but only ones who lived outside of Korea for a time and learned that their culture is but one of many and not necessarily the best.
