you mean 97500 net available to spend for 13 months?
should be doable, cuz thats ~70k USD, u can survive in NY for 13 months, so i suppose you can do little better in singapore. |

i have been to jakarta twice, in '07 and '09.
i like the place. if u stay downtown and go to the places catered to expats, tourists and local hi-society, its very nice, grand shopping malls, fancy restaurants and etc.
ppl are VERY friendly. food, i personally can not eat the local fare, with nasi goreng as the sole exception. another thing is that many restaurant even the international ones do not serve pork, i tried xiaolongbao at both nanxiang(南翔) and tingtaifeng(鼎泰豐) there, they use chicken, kinda yucky LOL.
the sucky thing is, for the weekdays, most of the nice place, restaurant or clubs, are DEAD.
we went to this very nice japanese restaurant called blow fish, honestly i thought the food is comparable to the best sushi i have had in asia, but there was not another customer. waiter felt so bad, and kept telling me i must return on saturday, thats when they turn the restaurant into 1/2 lounge and its the most happening day.
went to budda bar, the lounge/club that originated in paris then new york. NOBODY in the place, on thursday night, with a dozen staff just standing around.
went to red square and few other clubs/discotheques, all the fancy places were empty, only 1 or 2 local places had few locals hanging.
so if u like a happening place, like me, wants every night to be a saturday night. major china cities and bangkok is the way to go, partying never stops here. other cities like hong kong, seoul, clubs are not even open on mon/tue.
overall, its a nice place to chill for couple days before u hit up bali. i def can not see myself living there.
oh yeah now you gotta b careful with those bombs going off too. |

Its not net. Its gross i.e. before tax. No idea what the taxation in Singapore is like.
I am inclined towards refusing. Got a week to decide (starting today). |

Take it, you will do great, have enough money left to travel and for savings.
Tax for this kind of salary should work out around 1 month salary per year.
You will live far better than with your 25K RMB / months in Shanghai. |

Im a brit and I have lived in Singapore now for 3 years- was in Shanghai before . I liked Shanghai , but am having a much better time in Singapore - this is for a number of reasons :
1) Quality of living - much higher - I pay the same rent here as in Shanghai ( SGD 3,500 ) and have a 1200 sq ft flat with swimming pool / tennis court , open spaces etc
2) Constantly amazed by the greeneness and tropical environment in Singapore
3) I think the quality of expat here is higher and therefore socially have found it great ( less big americans sitting in Starbucks on Nanking Xi Lu talking loudly about their China expertise )
4) Quality of locals - I have great banter in the office with colleagues in SGP , rather than in Shanghai where people spent all day avoiding me or eyeing me suspiciously - day to day your average Singaporean is friendly and accomodating
5) Quality of bars and restaurants - less choice than in Shanghai , but a MUCH higher quality - expectations and therefore standards are high here
6) Nightlife - a limited number of clubs but most are good - though expensive
7) Travel opportunities - getting to the airport is 20 minutes in a cab and there are some great places an hours flight away
Personally I love Singapore and after 3 years I still don't find it limited - there is a huge amount of development going on here ( the casinos probably the most significant ) - I appreciate that some people are looking to challenge themselves in a more demanding emerging economy - but from the OP's comments having done Bangalore and Shanghai - Singapore may be a welcome change ! |

and $97,500 isn't too bad and tax on that would be pretty low - if you shared a flat you could keep your rent to below SGD 1000 per month - take another $1000 out of that for tax and you've got a fair amount to play around with .... |

i don't think so.
after tax he is getting high 4000's in USD, in singapore, per month.
in shanghai he is getting 3600.
from my experience in both places, i would say you are definitely "poorer" in singapore with 4k usd a month, than in shanghai with 3.6k. |

He is now getting RMB 25K
In Singapore he is getting S$97500 /13 = S$7500 per months = RMB 36500
If you want to do it in USD, its about USD 3600 in Shanghai, vs. USD 5300 in Singapore (let's say at least 4700 after tax)
Not sure if the 25K RMB in Shanghai is before or after tax, but he has at least USD 1100 more each months in Singapore, which in my opinion he will not need for housing (and also not for food or others). |

that was my math. high 4000 vs. 3600.
and imho, $1100 USD more in singapore compared to shanghai, does not offer him a fancier life in singapore. |

One the more pleasant surprises will people will actually get after reaching to Singapore for the first time from China, is that people actually follow traffic lights regulation. |

Also, I'm passed the idea that someplace needs to chaotic/dirty to be interesting. |

Can't agree more. And even buses will stop and let you cross the street on those pedestrian crossing that doesn't seem to mean anything here.
I tend to agree with some people here that an extra $1K USD / month is rather small. However, I also know some big firm consultants that got paid less when stationed in Singapore. The reasoning is because its much easier to live in Singapore than in Shanghai, so your "inconvenient" fee is lower. |
