It would be a big help if you specify area, and budget.
I suggest look at Tong Ji Garden Towers 1033 Kang Ding Lu. Very reasonable cost, various length of tenures from daily upwards. Serviced by arrangement, handy location, 10 minutes walk to JingAn Temple, no deposit I believe. |

Do you have trouble finding your head? What if I let you use both hands? How about letting you use both hands with a mirror in front of you, could you find your head then? I gotta ask because you seem to have difficulty in finding apartments to rent in a city that is packed with apartments to rent. |

@jack_Liu: Mate I lived in Tong Ji Garden for a year, as a 2x6 months renter and paid a security deposit of 1 months rent. For a short term rental, may not be necessary, or be very minor.
Agree with Bitter, there are thousands of rentals available. What's your criteria?
p.m. me your email address, and will send you info pack on rentals.

Yes, it would be good to know your estimated budget so we can recommend some good places for you. There are such huge differences in rental rates.
There are some lower budget serviced apartments that are centrally located like The Summit on Yan An Rd and World Union on Wu Lu Mu Qi Rd.
There are more pricey centrally located ones like Nan Yang, Delight Pacific Ladoll, Crystal and Far Glory.
Tongji Garden is a little further out but good choice as is Midtown ad Celebrity Garden in the southern area. You will get cheaper rentals in the Xu Jia Hui area.
Also, you can usually use your credit card imprint as security bond.
Just be careful when they quote prices for serviced apartments as the "services" vary greatly. A high end serviced apartment would provide all utilites for free, ADSL, Sat TV, pots, pans, crockery, cutlery, linen and towels, cleaning and linen/towel changing service. Many claim they are "serviced" but in fact they only provide short term lease and weekly housekeeping. It is really important to check what is and is not included. Another thing, when they say they provide kitchen utensils, get a list of these as they can be very local utensils like hot water jugs, bowls and chop sticks. This tends to happen in the lower end places. They can also charge a packet for these so called "extras" but insist on adding some of the m in the rate. Everything is negotiable in China
Enjoy your stay here and PM me if you need any help or advice.
Cheers,
Adrienne |

This is NOT true. A lot of serviced apartment accept one-time payment for short stay. No deposit needed. I did that for friends before in more than one serviced apartments. |

@Shangstar: I rented there for a year in two places, and paid 3,500. but was one bed, and for 6 months each time.
There are many different configurations, up to 3 bedrooms, and will depend on the length of stay.
You would need to have a personal look at the options.
Good place to stay, with great security, and very clean. Some servicing available by arrangement. |

Tong Ji is an excellent place to live. It's clean and feels pretty high-end even though it is not all that expensive. There is in fact a sign in front of the elevators with rental information starting at 3.5k and I guess you can ask about that at the service desk. However, just down the road there is an agency that takes care of some of the units in Tong Ji and I am currently on a 3.3k per month deal (1 month deposit, 35% fee) with them. 50 sq. metres one bedroom. Best thing is, it's on a monthly basis, so no need to sign up for a long time. If I start disliking the place, I can be out within a month.
Maintenance in Tong Ji is free and ayi is 15 kuai per hour. Bills go to your mailbox or come knocking on your door and internet can be arranged as well without you getting so much as a phonecall. It's a great area too, metro is a bit far (10-15 mins theoretically but you know) but there is a lot nearby. Couple of great restaurants right outside in the same building too, with outdoor seating which is nice and always a great crowd sitting there when the weather is nice. |

Also a cool lounge/bar on 2nd or 3rd floor, with cheap snack meals, never crowded, and a small gym next to it.
In my opinion, probably the best value for money in the down town area. |
