| Post subject: Best Cities for Great Seafood in Asia/China |
Just came back from Bali (indonesia)...overall the trip was just ok but enjoyed the seafood (especially lobsters) at in comparison to shanghai a good price. Where else in Asia/China is there for eatting great seafood at a good price.

The Whole South East Asia is good for Sea Food. Hong Kong and Macau is pricey but good too. If you consider Australia as part of Asia well there has great Seafood.
Yeah the whole Asia has amazing seafood, except China.
Now I feel sad............... |

Dalian is famous for it's seafood, and a beautiful city to boot.
Fish is plentiful and various, so prices are good. |

Xiamen, in the south, (80 min plane ride from Shanghai) is a seafood haven. The place is a hallmark of Fujian cuisine which is mostly seafood related.
Since I'm not a seafood person, I didn't exactly enjoy the food there but it offers stuff Shanghai cant and at prices which are much lower than Shg. The fish is fresh and even the smallest restaurants there have fresh live fish in tanks.
The city is also very clean, traditional and high-tech. A lovely weekend in Xiamen, a visit to its Gulang Yu islet and banquet of seafood at its quite shores is one of my favourite memories of the place.

I think Thailand is the best when the grill the catch of the day in front of you on the beach, I really enjoyed it! |

Yeah, I do quite a bit of sailing around Phuket, and the seafood is just awesome. |

In Zhuhai, there is an open market similar to the one in Sai Kung of Hongkong.
But it is only for locals, you need ask to your hotel front desk.
I have been there more than 20 times, and I never can remember the name.
You buy the seafood alive from vendors on both sides of the seafood market lane, and then you select the restaurant which will cook for you...
Never been sick there, food always great
I like Zhuhai, somewhere, it reminds me a little bit of my hometown Marseille (humm will change fast, too much development recently) |

Mr Totomolo, i know that place in Zhuhai. That is seafood market close seacost, on apposite side of Matao (Sea Port).
In Qingdao you can get seafood (really SEAfood) everywhere, prices always are low. |

I'm not a fan of Chinese sea food. Quality always seems to be average at best. My vote is also south east Asia. |

Indonesia I'd say is the best for seafood, but I also rate Sri Lanka very highly indeed. |

Malaysia has not been mentioned. E.g. in Sabah the local Chinese cook splendid seafood. But finding those good small restaurants may sometimes be tricky. |

Thailand...
But get to a coastal city.... Where odds are one of the local industries is fishing.
(Except for the Tourist areas (Koh Phucket, Koh Samui, Pattaya, etc) where it will be fresh....but "Western/Tourist" prices.) |

Hey Everybody
Cambodian food is very similar to Thai food, but without the complexity of flavors or the punch. I grew up with Thai food (I'm half Thai), so eating Cambodian food often seemed like eating not-very-good Thai food to me. People without those emotional connections to Thai food, may appreciate Cambodian food more than I did.
