Hi Michael, this is Sophie. Regarding you are the founder of his place, so I assume you are very familiar with Coffee Meeting. Is this only suppose for expat? Why I ask this question because I see another topic “Add your testimonial for Shanghai Expat”, and I see a lot of person they do benefit and really enjoy the life here. So I am little bit curious to see what kind of group of person can make this happen. And I am the Shanghaiese, so if this Coffee meeting gathering is only for expat, maybe I shouldn’t come. Pls kindly let me know, thank you! |

Sophie: Everybody can join I guess. Some expats are anal about this, but they are just bad communicators. I always try to involve everybody in the conversation to make sure nobody is left out. Have fun on Sunday and don't take this too serious who is expat or not, who cares! |

Yu said best
| Quote: |
| This event's intent is to give Expats and their families a chance to meet each other, hang out, and compare notes, to basically help make the experience of living and working in Shanghai a positive one. Any expat is welcome, and any locals who will add-value to the above discussions are also welcome, but please, no commercial discussions will be allowed, and no soliciting by language teachers, nor language exchanges etc... you can do your own meetings for that. |
We have local show up who ad to the discussions. Some have been coming for years. If you are there to meet people and chat thats fine. We have a lot of expats who people looking at the group might think they are local because they have asian faces. It is NOT an english corner, a recruiting place for english teachers, or chinese lang students, or a place to promote your business.
So yes, you can come.. we are not trying to keep people out, but we do want a certain quality. |

I look plenty Chinese but have just spent over half of my life in the US. Hopefully it's a friendly enough place for me to hit it off with everyone. See you all tomorrow. |

heheh it's not an english corner so everyone can speak in putonghua/mandarin if they know it, or what other languages there may be.
I'll be bored at home.. so I will be there tomorrow. heh |

don't talk in a crowd, talk to the person next to you and across from you.. then it gets easier
Its informal and people who participate get the most out of it. |

As far as I know it is on Sunday around 12-13-ish in Xintiandi Coffee Bean. The Saturday thing is in Zhongshan Park, Cloud 9 mall Coffee Bean in the morning, approx 10.30. |

Hi,
this sounds nice May I ask what kind of people visit these sunday mornings? I'm a 23 year old girl from the Netherlands en would like to meet some new people since I'm new in Shanghai.

The Saturday-one at Cloud 9 mall are also highly suggested, but it tends to be a little harder to get up so early to make it on time |

Ok, maybe I'll go there too sometime. No problem to get up early, I'm used to it '
On the sunday meeting: are there people from around my age (let's say 20 to 30)? |

in general, its a pretty diverse group. Yes, there usually are people in 20-30's. There are local, and expats from just about everywhere. |

Expats, half pats, expats looking for jobs, expats who just arrived, expats waiting to go home, etc etc etc
Sometimes it turns into an english language cum cultural exchange corner... hahahah |

I was sitting across from a guy from Mississippi last week whose Mandarin was pretty good.. chatting with a chinese lady who had just returned from living in the US for 21 years. |
