Speak to your school counsellor, this might be difficult for you, but please do. He or she will have come across your situation many times before and will have good advice, not necessarily about your decision but about practilalities. |

Try:
No 411 Hospital.
Phone 021 65876866
Address: 15 Dong Jiang Wanlu, Hongkou District.
Near Luxun Park.
Website: www.dlrk.dl.gov.cn
This is a Army hospital, that specialize in abortions for young girls.
As it is Govt. supported, the cost is little to nothing depending on your circumstances.
You may need a Chinese speaking friend if that is a problem for you.
Also could contact: www.lifelineshanghai.com
They can give confidential and non-judgmental advice.
Good Luck. |

Monalisalee has given a great suggestion. Definitely call Lifeline and see if they have some low cost counsellors that can help you through this, if you need some help. It is not a nice experience to go through in another country with out all the support, friends and family that you would normally have at home. Hospital's bed side manner (especially the local ones) can be quite different here and when you are in a fragile state it can be a terrible experience. Even just talking to someone at Lifeline can help as well. Lifeline 6279 8990.
Hope all goes well and take care:-)

I see Shanghai Government has set up a hotline through the 411 hospital.
It is 6587-6866
By the way, 45% of abortions done there are students, and I believe are free.
May also be worth a call as they can give advice also. |

Be careful. Do it somewhere nice. The method used here in the local hospitals resembles a Ford assembly line. There are no niceties, you don't get any type of pain medication or anaethesia. It can be quite tramatic, especially for a young person. |

That seems like a significant figure.Isn't contraception widely available and promoted in China? Or is it way back there in terms of school based sex education?
And from the OP, I get the impression that she's not a high school student, rather a foreign university student. |

My quote of 45% was from the hotline site. Seems high, but they did not say what type of student. (foreign or local)
Sex education here is definately lagging behind western countries, but seems to be making good progress in the schools. Lets hope it continues.
Contraception is always better than an unwanted abortion.
One of the problems is, Chinese parents shy away from the subject of sex education much more than western countries, thus it is left to the education system to rectify this situation. |

Surely an unwanted abortion is illegal? The 'patient' must consent...... |

InTrouble, you could start your research on contraception methods here:
http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/teenagehealth/contraception_which.htm
If you choose the pill, please keep in mind that it doesn't offer protection against venereal diseases, AIDS, HPV (human papillomavirus) |

this is not true. I went to chinese hospital with my girlfriend, you can choose anaesthesia or pain medication. She doesn't have problems after that.
And I would not recommend to take abortion pills, go for medical abortion if needed. The percentage of fails if take pills is very high and causes many problems to your body. Specially here, as they give the same number of pills to everyone instead of vary it on age and weight and hormonal test. |
