Where can I find a Chinese version of this whole process to show our Chinese HR girl? I think she tried oversimplifying the visa process and now I'm getting worried.

Thanks.

UNLESS you have actual referral from TRUSTED sources, do NOT use any unknown Visa Agents.

Thanks for the informative post. I've heard something somewhere about someone (sorry for being so specific) requiring a criminal background check from your home country, certifying that you're not a felon, in order to complete one of the stages in the legal employment process.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about? I haven't seen anything on it in these threads, but I'd hate to go to HK in a couple weeks to get my Z visa and discover that I'm stuck there because they need this non-existent document.

If this certification is in fact required, could anyone direct me as to how to obtain one? I presume it's one of those Chinese logic things where the related government department doesn't exist in my country (USA), and certainly doesn't issue whatever document they want.

Much thanks.

[edit] The requirement I'm talking about is listed here http://www.iiiiiiii.com/news/2008/08/28/criminal-record-certificates-t o-be-required-for-china-work-visas.html

However, it seems it's a requirement to get the 就业许可证 (employment permit?), which I already got last week without having any documentation of not being a criminal. I guess this means no cause for alarm? YMMV.

Hello,

I have a Shanghainese friend who is helping me renew my work visa through his company. My current employment permit ends Feb 20th. I just wanted to ask if anyone can confirm these are the only things I need to have before taking them to the labor department.

1. Release letter stamped by my present employer

2. New company's business license (take original for show)

3. A copy of the Social Insurance Registration certificate (if the new company is a Chinese company - original certificate is required)

4. Application letter written by the new company and addressed to Labor and Social Security Bureau, explaining why they would like to employ me

5. Resume (needs to be translated to Chinese if in a different language)

6. A copy of degree certificate (do I still need this if its already on file???)
7. A copy of labor contract with the new company

8. Employment Registration Form of Foreign Employees - fill in Chinese

9. Visa and residence permit application form - fill in Chinese

10. Two 2-inch photos

11. Passport

12. Alien Employment Permit

13. A copy of Temporary Form of Residence Permit (and original - just for show)

2.-9. all need to have new company stamp with the company' seal.

After I have all the documents and the necessary ones stamped by the new company, do I take them all the labor department on Wuding Lu? My understand is that I take them to the labor dep, then after a week pick them up and take to Mingshen Rd... Can anyone confirm I have everything in line?

Thanks in advance!!!

Moksha,
I don't know this for sure for changing companies, but for getting the original work license the Original degree certificate and a certified translation were both required (probably a copy too) under number 6 above.
Please keep us updated with what you find out. I'm curious about the requirements for changing companies as well. Do we really need to get a new residence permit (居留许可证), but not a new Z visa, right?

Hi all, quick question.

Is the "invitation letter" that I need to bring to a Chinese consulate to apply for my Z visa the document that is referred to as a 聘书 (pin4shu1) in Chinese?

The woman who is handling my visa stuff doesn't speak English, so I wasn't totally sure if these were the same document.

Thanks!

P.S. Great visa application article Yu88. Misspelled embassy as ambassy in section 2, though.

Danny Boy,
The "invitation letter" that you need to bring to the overseas consulate is 被授权单位签证邀请函. It's issued by one bureau or another on request from your company, and it says that in big letters right at the top. English is roughly "Authorized company visa invitation letter".
You also need to bring your health check report and your 就业许可证 "employment permit". Bring photocopies of all, I don't remember which things required the original documents and which required photocopies, but they'll take something from you for all three of those documents. I'm pretty sure they only took a photocopy of my health check without even looking at the original, since you need the original to get both the employment permit and the residence permit.
