Hi yu888, great stuff indeed.

FYI
It appears you can get a 24 months L visa multiple entry, 90 day stay if your spouse is Chinese. I'm back in The US for a couple of weeks our Chinese Travel agent has applied for me ,should be no problem, I will let you know how it works out, it is the same price as the 1 year. Note you have to apply outside China, you need copy of marriage cert, and spouses Chinese passport,

Have to leave Shanghai for what reason? As far as I understand it she will have no problem to stay in Shanghai. However as she has no visa, when you leave China you will need to get her an exit permit / visa from the PSB so that she can leave the country. She will then need a visa when she comes back into China as do all foreign nationals.

So your problem is not that the procedure for foreign nationals is that they need a valid visa, but that you cannot afford to take time off for your child to get one? Sad Well, your WIFE could be the one to leave the country.

Quick visa run to HK via Shenzheng may be the cheapest route.

So for babies that are born in China but with a foreign passport, how long can they stay without a visa? I wasn't aware of any time limit as such. I just know that an exit permit is needed when leaving the country.

Just went to renew my residence permit for the 3rd time and I just found out about the self-service machines available for those that need to renew their residence permits. What would have taken me all day (I had #178, they were serving #93/94) only took me about 5 minutes including the wait time.

Procedure is to go up the escalator and turn right 180 degrees....the units are in the far corner to the left (3 or 4 of them). Enter your current residence permit number, make sure all the information that pop up on the screen is correct, and print out your ticket. Go back to the queue ayi and get your 'D' ticket and wait for your number to be called. Make sure you have all the documents signed and chopped...piece of cake.

Oh....and I guess they're opened this Sunday (9/27) due to the rush before holidays.

Saturday is a really busy day at the visa office. If you get there and find that there are over 150 people in front of you, you may want to go for a walk up Yingchun Lu (the direction away from the subway) where there are lots of restaurants and a few shopping centres (about 4 blocks I think). Or even head there when you are finished for some lunch.

It says:

However, I believe no matter what type of visa one holds, one is still limited to 30 days unless one acquires a Foreign Resident Permit.

When I had an 'L' visa it said:

"Duration of Each Stay '060' Days After Entry"

Thanks, Paul

My L Visa, obtained in June 09, says "060" days. That means I have to leave every 60 days.

....good idea, but be warned, if you miss your number, you have to get another ticket and go to the back of the queue.

I have a question: Is there anyway to extend an F visa without having to go to Hong Kong? I am currently o a 3 month F visa, however my contract and invitation letter for my internship are for 6 months. I tried to apply for the full 6 month visa last month in HK, but came out with just 3 months single entry. Can I change it to multiple entry/6 months without leaving Shanghai?

Does anyone know if it's possible to go from a Z visa (residency permit) to an L visa at this office?

Also, my Z visa/res per is from another city. Can I convert it to an L in Shanghai?

I can't get a clear answer and the PSB in my town is telling me to do it in Shanghai.

Visa question for the community:

I have a six month, multiple entry "L" visa with thirty day validity. For a number of reasons I'd like to stay in Shanghai continuously beyond the date that I'm currently required to leave.

My question is this: if I travel over to Pudong will the entry-exit bureau cancel my existing visa and reissue me a 30 day "L" visa? If so, how many times can I repeat the process? I'd rather not make the trip down there only to be refused, but can't find an answer to my question on their websit.

Many thanks,

Unc

If your spouse is Chinese your L visa multiple entries valid 1 year can be granted for unlimited times of application. No need to leave the country and there is no more a XXX day stay limit.
If you apply from outside China you will need to get the regular Tourist visa L to enter the country and then go to the PSB to change it into a L visa for relatives.

hello everyone.

I need help on VISA. I was given double entry. I have used up the first 30 days. I was in Shanghai Jan 19 and I almost left Shenzhen Feb 19 and then realized that January is 31 days...whew!

Anyways, I'm going back to Shanghai by Thursday and I have been reading this thread. I have a few questions.

- I never registered in the police station for my first 30 days of stay. Should I need to register this time?

- will they ask me where I live? Coz I'm just renting a room for 1 month and not staying in a hotel.

- CAn I extend my tourist visa once my second entry is up at the EEB?

- I have already many China double entry visa for the past few years. but this time I plan to stay longer. Will they ask me questions at the EEB?

- Can I apply for a multiple entry at the EEB?

- How much is the extension?

- How many days prior to my expiration should I visit the EEB?

Thanks for your help. Smile

I would go to HK, and get a new multi-entry visa with a 60 day stay, I think you can still get a 6month to one year. Then when you come back you will have no problem. If you are going to stay for a while, you will probably want to register with PSB.
That's a judgment call on your part. Please guys don't write a bunch of, it's the law, and freak out!. That's my 2 cents.
