How do you get UKTV? Is it on Cable? So do you think its HSBC? I doubt it would be a bank as I guess they might be competition with the consultants - am sure the bank would prefer to contact you direct with their own financial products. |

How are these "FP's" getting private contact information? Today I received a call from one of these slugs. They way I was addressed tells me that they had my full contact information and phone number from my bank. (This is because my bank name is not the same as my normally used name)
Yes, this is China, but is it not illegal for a very large Western Bank (or any bank for that matter) to give out private contact information? |
What you mean Bobg8zwf isn't your real name? |

^Well, it's not the name mum & dad gave me when the vicar tried to drown me!
@Shangstar, yes HSBC. I really don't know who else here has the information that the FP slug mentioned to me.
For the TV, a friend back home has a slingbox installed. I have control and access here. All freeview and sky channels no problem at all. Streaming at 400k right now, picture very good, of course not perfect. Sound is as good as quality tv. Send me an email address and I can show you a live demo of it. |

got a cold call from Elite Financial group at work today.
Strange caller ID (962211) otherwise I would not have answered.
After exchanging pleasantries with the young chap (American/Canadian accent?),
he offered me a free consultation. I pleasantly told him I was not interested in his offer and he promptly hung up without as much as a thanks/goodbye.
Cold callers should get some manners training IMO |

For a change my husband wasn't called by a consultant yesterday. No, he received a letter from SPAIN (Euro Security Company S.L. / Euro-Millions Lottery) telling him that he won "two hundred and fifty milliones euros"
Wow, we won without even buying a ticket.
Anyone else who's a millionaire now? |

I think something is up with the phone system. I called McDonalds for delivery and they had a totally different number for me. I called back and same thing. My number wasn't being shown even though I've used it many times previously to order from them. |

my friend worked for Austin Morris for about 2-3 months. his base was 4k/month, some small bonus is someone comes in, and yeah, around 300-500 if they sign.
I mean, this tele-marketing business exists, and judging by how many ppl work there, it is quite profitable... it means some expats are actually signing with them... |

It's a percentage game. They know if they call 100 people, one will say yes. So if they need to sell 10 per month it means they have to call 1000 people every month. Believe it or not there are people who are thinking about investing money in some kind of plan, so if the call comes at the right time, it's an easy sell. |

u really want to know where they get the info from?
u register at the police. Now there is something you can't really do anything about.
Why I know that? we handle lot's of registrations, since most of our customers don't speak chinese when they arrive, we put our phone numbers in the applications.
So the financial consultants sometimes call me think it's them, and recently at the end of last year, a guy from the police office called me
thinking I'm one of my customers who had left a year earlier.
Wanted to refresh his database.
Now, I know lot's of the guys in the fuxing road office (the bad seed was the gubei one), and they told me that as soon as your name enters exit, the record gets deleted in the police computers.
So this fella, from the police clearly wrote it down.
Oh I scared the hell out of him.
I told him I'd report them, who he's selling it to, etc. Wanted his badge number, and he hung up.
It's 830pm, and I kept calling back, and he always hung up, didn't want to give me his badge number.
Called until 10pm or so.
Since, then, quiet. Not a sound.
Interesting huh? |

man, u don't know.
Police in Shanghai are real scared, plus I pretend to be angry chinese.
They can lose their job if you report them and are dissatisfactory.
And what they're doing is more than just being bad, they're selling police databases.
Yesterday night, believe it or not, I was yelling at the guys in jing'an because there has been renovation in b2 under the 4 seasons forever.
And it's mcd's and they work until 1am, we called police 20 times or so, and they stop but after an hour or so workers start drilling again.
Then the police asked me where it is, and I lost it, after 20 times, 2 weeks and they didn't get anything done, they don't even have a report of this place that constantly breaks the law? McDonalds?
So I got real mad and there is not much they can do, as long as your mad for the right reasons, and know that you can actually call the "tousu dianhua" and make lot's of trouble for them, they'll be the nicest guys ever.
It's not the west, where you have to take all kinds of bs from police (at least shanghai isn't anymore).
C Party hella careful to not anger the people.
this morning, I got the text from 1065700107449 and I have to reply with 1, satisfied, 2 soso, 3 not satisfied to my 110 call.
They're serious about that. |

U know why there is some things, only chinese can get done here?
it's because foreigners are scared of going all sean penn on them.
You have to know they can pull all kinds of stuff in offices, like "wei renmin fuwu" where is your superior? Scream, yell, and call the attention to them.
Whatever it is, you go ahead, you're chances of succeeding in whatever bureaucracy, incompetence, or sheer laziness you're fighting just doubled.
Just know your things, make a solid case, and scream it at them.

This is Shanghai btw, I'd never try anything like this elsewhere in china. |
