Post subject: Beijing versus Shanghai with kids

Which city is better for expat families with kids - Shanghai or Beijing? I would love some feedback on this question. Pros and cons of each.

i think Shanghai is better. financial city is better for expats :> kids can go to american school or concordia, singaporean school, etc. but everything in Beijing is cheaper than Shanghai.

Beijing is hosting the next Olympics, so I imagine there will be a lot of renovation and construction going on. Could make the city a bit congested.

I've done both and SH beats BJ hands down. BJ you feel like a strange animal in the zoo half the time and there are not as many foreigners. And the creature comforts one needs are harder to come by. However I do love BJ the people are lovely they treat you that way from interest and lack of social skills and the history and sites are way above SH. But that doen't make it easy for the kids. Shocked

I have heard Shanghai is much better in terms of social life and facilities. Beijing is better if you want history and tradition.
