| Post subject: Another newbie hello! |
Hi everyone,
I've been lurking for a little while and thought I'd come out of the shadows and say hello.
A quick intro... I'm 30, have been working in Thailand for the past 5 years and have been transferred to Shanghai almost three weeks ago. The first couple weeks were hectic at work until today... when I finally had some free time and realized I have absolutely no idea what to do!
So far my explorations have included:
- The hotel
- The office
- The hotel
- The office
- (etc)
- Walking Nanjing Donglu through the masses
- Being chased outside my hotel by a very persistant beggar
- Business dinners all over town (lots of nice restaurants here!)
- Queueing up for Haagen Daaz like I was waiting to get into a club
- Finding a Thai chef and securing a place for me to get *real* Thai food (yeah!!!)
- CNN in my room
I've found the Internet to be very frustrating here. I've got a weblog and it's apparently banned here in China- posting is ok but I can't review messages, and all of the blogs I used to read are banned. Google works only every now and then. Argh! Good thing for proxies!!!
So what are the cool places to go? I know about That's Shanghai but there are a ton of places here so the selection is a bit overwhelming. Anything similar to Q Bar in Bangkok?
I'll try and make it to one of the meetings/dinners... Though it's the first time I've ever gone to such a meeting. Yikes!!!!
I know the recent F1 race was held here, but don't suppose there's any amateur racing and/or racing schools going on at the track? I can't seem to find anything on Google. Did at bit of racing in Thailand at the Bira circuit there.
Take care all!!!!

PS - Any idea why the avatar I uploaded isn't working? I made it small enough and it appears to be selected when I look at the options in my account... but not yet changed |

I've got no idea!!! It's a jpg at 77x71 pixels. Should be small enough.

Sawasdee khrup!!! You look a bit young in your photo.
So where do you recommend for good Thai food? I went to the Asian restaurant in the Westin and found that one of the chefs is Thai. I spoke to talk to him and he promised to cook me anything I liked... My favorites are gai tort kra tiem prik thai, kai jiow moo sap, tom kha kai, khao soi, and other common dishes... yum!!!!
I was so happy to speak Thai to someone. Here I feel lost because I can't speak Chinese.
Am flying back to Thailand on Thursday for a few days. Can't wait!!!

Actually it's Bira... named after Prince Birabongse, the racing driver who drove in Europe in the 50s. Very nice track! |

As for your av, did you upload it into your main account, or just your forum account? I have 2 avs, the Commie panda and the Bartender from Neverwinter Nights. Upload your forum av under Profile here, not under "Your Account." |
