Just curious.

Does old guys in western society have zero social status? Are they trashed by the whole society in western country?

No, I don't think so. Many elderly people are respected and revered as they are in other cultures. There are also incidents where they are not. Really more of an individual thing than an across the boards rule or norm.

Social status in western societies can be defined in a number of ways. Age, income, occupation, etc do enter into the equation in some circumstances but do not always make up the sum total of an individual.

Western societies can be very fast paced and at times, individuals can forget that the elderly may require special needs or things done at a different speed. I don't think it is an intentional smack in the face.
