I haven't been much in gaming, but I bought 2 pretty good games dirt cheap a few days ago. Mob enforcer which is pretty good but I haven't got to step one yet which is find the rat. You're Al Capone's enforcer back inn the days. The second one is grand theft auto - vice city which is like a miamy vice cocaine cartel type of deal with boat cars helicopters and lots of hookers. Good game but the sound does work, and i think its due to my sound card which is a Realtek AC97
I need someone to help me with this no sound sh*t, its fuken drivin me nuts....... |

for the rat thing, i think you would have to seach for game walkthroughs.
as for the sound problem, you would need to tell us whether the GTA game setup is the original setup rather than some chinese workshop remedied 'setup.exe' . if that is the case, they might not do a good job with the 'setup' thing.
they tend to fix the games by turning them into HDD version (NO-CD ver.) |

Not too worried about finding the rat, its a pretty popular game and there are some web sites I can look at.
But if I understand what you mean by HDD version, your right that these can loaded on hard drive, and no need for cd to play. Its suppose to auto detect my sound card but its not. Then I did see that when I execute sound.exe it tells me to configure the thing in my control panel, which is already configured properly. I tried removing the driver, and installing gain, the installing the game again but no luck. What's even more confusing is that some people have sound problems with this game and my sound card but it seems like they do get sound whereas mine says no sound hardware detected @#%( |

that's a bit strange. i sure hope that this is not the situation where it is your OS that is unstable.
there is one way to quickly determine where the problem actually is : use another sound card and see if it works. then we can know whether we should fix the sound card/device or the OS itself. haha.
(your're not using a laptop, are you?) |

i find it strange too that the game asks particularly you to execute 'sound.exe' to configure your sound.
that makes this game sound like a DOS ver. haha. |

cyfox...u are on the ball. I'm not on a laptop, but it raises a good point to load the game on my laptop to try it (although its a work machine). It almost looks like its a DOS game but that seems strange. The other thing is that it mentions that the driver / soundcard should be 9X compatible. Any clue what that means ??

hahaha, that means it is a pretty old game!
so old that it could have issues with 'future' sound cards. |

wait a minute. GTA Vice City? I played that game before. I used to play it on a windows 2000. it did not have problems with my sound card and, i dont remember being asked to configure my sound using 'sound.exe'.
i still own a copy of the game. 3 discs. you can make a copy of mine.
this game rocks. |

Excellent !! Btw my laptop doesn't have enough video memory to play it and its also on XP. But first I think I will install W2000 on our computer as well, to have 2 OS, and try this it again.
The game I have is just the one cd, but everything else seems to be ok with it.
The game does rock so far...I'll let u know how I make out, but thanks in advance |

wait. if your version of GTA Vice City consists only 1 disc, then i suspect the game is already a 'fixed' one. apparently they did not do a good job during the 'compress-it-from-3-disc-to-1-disc' process.
for me, i would just go for an original 3 disc ver. safe play, always. (you dont want to play the game through half-way and suddenly have game errors that nobody in this world can fix, right?) |

Um, thats a good point. Tell you what, if your offer stands maybe I can arrange to make a copy of the game cause getting half way through and running into problems would just suck.
I'll send you a pm later, and leave my number. In return, what get I get you ? |

Anyone Flight Simmers here? I have IL-2 & Pacific Fighters & would love to find someone local to fly against - lag offshore is too bad to deal with. |

Try SONY's new generation game console PSP (not sure if I can still call that a console).
It's like GAMEBOY in size. It has wireless network function.
So you can play against your colleagues under the table during long meetings, hahaha. |
