| Post subject: Expats in your own country |
Being an expat in China is often a pain in the arse, and I've always wondered how difficult a transition it is for mainland Chinese to go and live/study or even holiday in a western country, and what particular difficulties they all experience.
In general, what are expats who are living in your own country bitching about about your own country? Knowing could be the kick up the arse that some laowai would find useful, particularly the arrogant ****.......
Any good links? |

My buddy lives in Amsterdam and he complains about the exact same thing expats complain about here.
Except he says that at least we are learning Chinese, a language spoken by 25% of the world, where he is learning Dutch a language spoken by .0005% of the population. |

What, spitting, mass overcrowding, staring, getting overcharged, bad hygiene, outstanding pollution, .............. What particulars about Amsterdam that locals wouldn't even notice, like most Chinese don't notice spitting, mass overcrowding, etc? |

My expat friends (2 office workers/one grad student) in nyc complain about prices/cost of living and the dirtiness of the city. Thats it.
I think for the most part, theyre really stoked to be living there.
For some crazy reason. |

Most expats back at home that i know actually want to go there and live in a "first world" country. AND they even bring their families to boot! Guess it may be a different story coming from say African or Vietnam or Papua New Guinea or somethig to China and finding the cost of living less and the offering of opportunities greater than at home. But for us who feel there is indeed a hardship that deserves some compensation...we just wanna keep b ! tching. And beleive me, we have plenty of ammo to work with... |
