Post subject: any adhd child in Shanghai

Has anybody hv adhd child ? I am a mom of three children. The elder two (7.3 and 6) was told by the doctor in our country last year we were back that they are both adhd. We didn't hv much time for any training since hv to hurry back for their school here. The doctor advised for taking medicine but we didn't agree and chose to use the behavior adjustment. Our job is not so good but still can be alive.
But now I think that we really need an advise/help fm doctor again since my eldest daughter hs problem w/her homeworks and her behavior.
I just want to know where can I take my two adhd children to c doctor ? don't mind for chinese speaking doctor since they both also in the chinese local school.

does hv mean "have" ?
does adhd mean "attention deficit hyperactivity disorder" ?

Well, you probably moved here from the states huh? The land where doctors get cash kickbacks for prescribing expensive medicine.

I'm not trying to downplay your children's problems, maybe they do need extra help from professionals to improve their school work and behavioral problems. But more than likely they don't need medicine. You should probably ask for a second opinion from another doctor, as to whether or not they really have a medical condition. Being good at school is not the most important thing in the world. My brother was terrible in school and now he is happily married and has a successful career.

There's a good chance that any chinese doctor you visit will have never heard of adhd. And also a good chance that if you visit a western pediatrician (for example Dr. Ward or Dr. Jenkins at World Link) that they will tell you your children are fine and just need more attention (from you, from tutors, from friends etc.)

I'm sorry for trying to pass judgement on your two children, whom I have never met. But it just bothers me that american doctors sometimes over-prescribe medicine and make parents unnecessarily worried over psuedo-medical conditions. Then again, who knows, maybe your kids would really benefit from some Ritalin (spelling?) , but I doubt it.
Go to World Link or go to a chinese doctor.

this happens in nearly every country in the world, and if you think it doesnt happen here, then g take a lookl at any chinese hospital... esp the ED's you will find queues and queues of ppl getting IV AB's as all doctors get a kickback here, even if the Govt is tryign t ban te practice, it doesnt and wont be stopped overnight... also...
pharmacists here also get percentage of all sales thru their pharmacies... either sold within hospital to other depts or sold directly... to the end user...
