| Post subject: Sci-Fi Enthusiasts: I'd like your feedback |
Hi. I'm looking for some feedback on a science fiction story I wrote awhile back. You can see it here in the "looking for..." forum. It's a long read, but if you have time, and you like science fiction, then please have a go at it, and tell me what you think.
Thank you. |

I guess you've been reading a lot of Arthur Clarke
It's not bad, but SciFi readers usually want to know a lot more of the physics/engineering details. You really need to up the ante in this area.
Also, the characters are a little 'thin'. That's better than doing the Gentry Lee thing and going into too much schpiel, but a little bit more character development would be good.
Not a bad concept, all in all. Another thousand hours and you'll be almost there |

Actually one thing about the 1000 yrs. In your story you move ahead in time 2000 or 3000 yrs. Can you imagin the technological advancements that would happen over that time, although there's no indication of major advancements in technology.
The story is ok, I like those kinds of stories |

Yes. And if there have been few or no advancements, you needs to find a reason why that should be the case (eg Rama II) |

read the first one. only part of the 2nd. I'll get to the rest when people clear out of the office. I think the tech thing is because everyone had to leave suddenly, and couldn't bring everything with them. Only a colony or sth like that on mars, so they had to sort of start over. Little infrastructure, and little population. That's what I got out of it anyways. Could be wrong. |

Why not? Look how long it's taken us to get to space! 30,000-50,000 years of supposed civilized history? We only know of 8000 of those years roughly, and can't trace back anything beyond rocks & pottery chips of the last 5,000. Do you expect the whole planet to be industrialized and ready to continue?
Perhaps there should be a more futuristic feel, but I don't think it should be that far in the future. Flying cars, definitely! Something we missed out on...
