| Post subject: Any German lessons in Shanghai? |
Hi everyone!
We are a German family living in Texas for 5 Years. We will be relocating to Shanghai around Christmas time and are thinking about, to enroll our 3 Kids (10, 12, and 15) at the American International School. They offer an IB program. It is very important for us, to mantain the mother thonge for the Children. In Houston, we visit the German Saturday School every Saturday. I was wondering, if we can find something simular in Shanghai. German tutor would be fine too. |

There are many Germans in Shanghai and there is a German language forum. Best to post your question at www.schanghai.com |

Thank you both for the good tips.
I checked out the German website, and it is very interesting. It is not very organized - all topics are mixed up.
I will for sure check out those 2 addresses. We will be in Shangai in Mai, so we may even visit these places! |

Hi Bigga, Not really answering your current question, but I thought you might find this useful:
Not sure what level your children's german are at, but while I was taking the IB diploma (in Hong Kong), you could choose to take your mother tongue language self-taught. The school should arrange for a tutor and everything. I did it in Danish and it was really a lot of fun because the cirriculum was to read many Danish classics, which I never did before, I spoke, read and wrote Danish, but never had the opportunity/incentive to read any Danish classics so that was very interesting.
I realise that your children still have a few years to go untill they start their final two years of the IB, but just thought you should look into this option ahead of time to see if their school offers it. If they don't, you should see if they could.
Oh and another thing, if the school does offer the self-taught language course as an option. They might already have German tutors who help the IB students, perhaps some of those tutors would be interested in tutoring your children. |

From what I can tell, most of the German families send their kids to the French and German School http://www.ds-shanghai.org.cn/
I do know that the IB program at SAS does offer the self taught language. There are many Dutch and Japanese students that choose this option. |
