Post subject: Only One Montessori School in Shanghai?

Hello everyone,

My 24-month-old is currently attending a Montessori School in the U.S. I'd like to him to continue this educational path in Shanghai. However, so far I only found Shanghai Utsukushigaoka Montessori Kindergarten in Hongqiao. Are there any other Montessori schools in Shanghai?

Thank you for your help.

In Pudong there are also several Montessori Pre-schools.

There is one in Jinqiao that I believe is English speaking. It is in the Green Villas complex on Jin Xiu Road.

Throughout Shanghai there are tons of Chinese speaking Montessori pre-schools. One chain is called "Jordan Baby". My husband runs one for ages 0-3 called "Super Baby" (www.shanghaisb.com, located in the Lianyang area of Pudong).

Sorry this is not directly related to your question but I thought the same folks who care about Montessori schools might know if there are any Reggio Emilia inspired schools in Shanghai (another italian philosophy/approach) which is very popular now in US. We are coming in July and I would love to get any info there might be in advance. Many thanks

I haven't heard anything about Reggio Emilia in Shanghai yet. Thnak you for mentioning this. I'll keep an eye on this from now. Will come back to you if I get some info.

BTW, how old are your children?

I visited the one in Green court or Green village something (Jinqiao, Pudong area). I think when I visited the website and called, it was under Sunflower Montessori school something (not sure, I lost their website link) But when I visited (after making appointment) it seemed to be called Montessori Children's house. The place was nice, there were many foreign children, nice playground. It was fully attended. If I'm not wrong, they said they were going to open another two (one near Lujiazui).

It seemed to me that they are German manangement team. (If you don't mind about this)

What I didn't understand about their guided visit is we were not allowed to enter the children classroom to see how the children were in their class, what they did (in real time, I mean); to see what they taught.
They said it might disturb some children in the class but I didn't think so. I think that it's better for parents to see what exactly they do, how kids behave in class, and at least to see how my child will react when seeing the class and what they were doing.

I forgot to say about one of my friends' son (2yrs now) is attending SuperBaby near Century park (I think it's a Montessori-oriented preschool ) since he was 20months. His parents really like this place especially teachers, and the boy really made a lot of progress. My friend said the teacher is really good and professional.
Maybe you should try out, visiting each of them before making decision.

Maybe SaraC can give you more detail than me. I only joined my friends' son class one time, my daugther was just too old for the pre-school.
