Post subject: New in Shanghai with 20 mth old, pregnant and feeling lost

HI everyone I've been reading lots of postings on this forum about new moms coming to Shanghai and their questions.....reading these have answered most of my own questions.
This is the first time I've been to another country to live for three years and am missing my family very badly.I'm from Sri Lanka.WE are living in Shi Mao Riviera and it's a lovely place with a play area for kids etc....so my 20 mth old son(Jay) gets to play and have fun.I'm three months pregnant.
Keeping up with Jay the whole day keeps me occupied but 'm a person whose used to having lots of friends. And I'm feeling very lonely and always with a feeling of despair.
Are there any mothers groups who meet for support and friendship?.....in Shanghai I'm in Pudong area.
Appreciate any help or info anyone can give me.
Thanks
Ayesha

The International Mothers Support Group has been a valuable resource for my wife to meet new friends and to get answers on questions about child rearing in Shanghai. We highly recommend the group.

It is a large group but if you find some mothers with whom you have something in common then you can always branch off and do your own thing. Unfortunately its mostly europeans, aussies, new zealanders and south east asians, but who knows, maybe you'll even find someone from Sri Lanka there too. There is a membership fee but it is very reasonable and you won't have to pay it the first time you go.

If you want information on when and where they meet then either e-mail to this address: imsgshanghai@hotmail.com
or call Ms. Kirsty Hamilton at 50304240.

The group meets in both PuXi and PuDong, but I think on alternate dates so if you wanted to go to both then it might be possible.

Welcome to Shanghai,
-B
