Technically it's possible to play online games from here but it's pretty complicated and not worth the time , at least on ps2.
here is why:

1st because the ps2 is region coded which means that if you buy an "unmodified" console (>not chiped) you would only be able to play games of its own region.
eg: if u buy a jap ps2 you'll only be able to play jap games, the same thing goes with us/euro conoles/games.
In china you'll find most of the time jap ps2s, sometimes us and almost no euro ones.Which means that you' have to play japanese games. Can you speak/read japanese??

2nd because the ps2 has only "officially" reached the chinese market a few months ago (and only in big cities like shanghai) with a very small number of games and all in chinese of course. You can find a lot of copies here for a ridiculous price but this is another problem leading to my 3rd remark.

3rd if you do chip your console in order to play copies and eventually try to go online with your ps2, sony's online service will scan your hardware and detect if your console is chipped and will ban your ps2 serial number from their service for good.

So to summ it up to play online here you'd need a ps2 (unchipped), original games corresponding to the region of your console, a network adapter, and a lot of money since you'd have to import games from outside china (since you can't find any original games sold here apart from chinese ones) from web sites such as lik-sang.com or amazon

but if you can speak chinese you can overcome sony's scan by asking the shop to mod your console with a chip that can be deactivated but you'd still need to get original games though.

I hope this answered your questions
