| Post subject: How's club-hopping in Shanghai? |
Are most or all the decent nightclubs within walking distance of each other in the city or do you need to use taxis when club-hopping? Then again, do people go club-hopping in Shanghai or do people tend to go to just one club and stay there the night? |

Don't know about all people, but at least me and all my friends do club-hopping every time we go out.
Ok I'm assuming you are talking about 'CLUB-hopping' here, not 'BAR-hopping'. The best club-hopping area must be Fuxing Park. Guandii and Park 97, both located in the park, are just a stone's throw away, and Madam Zung and DKD are both only 5 minutes' walk from the park.
Rojam and Pegasus are both in Huanhai Lu and within walking distance.
As for other clubs (Mint, Dragon, La Fabrique, etc.), you may need to take the taxi. |

So zang, you don't think a dragonfly tattoo on soft, smooth skin is enjoyable? Show up at MZ this Saturday if you wanna see your favorite bikini gal! lol
Apparently apple and vodka kills brain cells more quickly. (How many of yours were killed on that single night?) I swear I'll never let those bastards fool me again! 'Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.' |

How I differentiate the two is a bar you just drink at and a club you can also dance at. Is that your defintions? If not, do tell.

Is there any reason why this is "the" place for clubs?

Thanks for the information. Are there nice apartment buildings within walking distance of Fuxing Park? |

Zang I'm sure it'll be a fun night tonight!
Tough_Lefse, to me, a club must have some serious djing going on and a decent dancefloor. People dance at Zapata's too, but I don't think Zapata's is a club.
Why 'the' place? Hmmm, it's downtown and people are familiar about and have easy access to that area. Another advantage is that there are no residential buildings in the park, so the clubs can play the music as loud as they want. Well, just my guess.
I'm sure there are some nice apartment buildings around, like those service apartments in Hongkong Plaza. You can go to real estate agents for more info. |

Guandii: Trance & Hip Hop
Park97: Trance or House? Haven't been there for ages!
DKD: Trance
Madam Zung: Breakbeats |

Yep we were informed by Guandii that it would be closed for renovation a few weeks ago, but apparently due to some reason it is still open.
Never been to Real Love. Heard it was good to meet university babes though. Rojam is actually a cool venue (PVD party at Rojam last year kicked ass!), but unfortunately its management has no idea how to run it properly. |

dont know what planet xtina is on, coz every single club here is a joke. if a single dj here tried to play in theUK, he'd get his ass kicked, literally.

Shanghai women are like most women, CHI_TOWN728 -- their preferences differ! I don't think that there is any prejudice against Americans.
Living in Shanghai will likely be quite different that whatever you're used to at home. Where are you from? Have you travelled abroad/lived abroad before? If so, you might have an easier time adjusting, and fighting potential homesickness, if you are prone to that. There are many foreigners (including many Americans) your age living and working in Shanghai. Many of them teach English at various schools around the city. Is that what you'll be doing? If so, you will likely find it quite easy to fit in.
In terms of "what to expect"...it will depend on what you are accustomed to. Generally, you can expect Shanghai to be busy, teeming with people, loud, somewhat dirty, energetic, full of opportunity, dynamic, and certainly full of surprises. When it's closer to your "moving time", check the boards for recommendations about what to bring and what to leave when coming here, and perhaps check for SHEX meeting times as well (coffee meeting, Wed night mixer, dinners, etc) so you can meet some expats and locals who have been here awhile already!
Welcome to Shanghai, in advance! |

I've heard about people being followed down the street because people wanted their picture taken with them.....Im a tall blonde hair green eyed guy am i gonna get hounded??..........I've basically covered all of western Europe and My trip to China this June is more of a getting to know China before I commit to anything.....I've been wanting to come to China for some time I've studied its history and learned what I could about the culture from books and word of mouth....Im from Chicago so im used to a busy city but im betting Shanghai will be alot more busy, but Im looking foward to that.......I would love to get a chance to talk with as many of you as possible before my trip, and if possible maybe get some insight on where to go at night....... |
