Heh...didn\'t expect so many quotes for that comment. I meant it, but still.....didn\'t expect so many replies. But yeah, I think those underwear that \"lift\" womens butts to make them look shapely, just like the Wonderbra works on the bosom, would do well in China.

What kind of anti-diarrhea drug do you all use? Last time I was in China, I had diarrhea every other day, and the local chinese medicine didn't help and only made me more nauseous. I'm trying to get some ideas before the next trip.

hmmm... I know this post is CRAZY old, but I noticed that no one ever replied to this poor guy who gets diarrhea. When I was on a trip in NW China, a guy in medicine shop gave me 2 kinds of medicine, and when I combined them, they worked as good as I remember Immodium working, with no noticable side effects. And it cost a total of around 10 RMB. not bad.
There's no english on them, so maybe one would have to print these things out and show them to a pharmacist or just memorize how to say them...

诺氟沙星胶囊(nuò fú sha xing jiao náng)
(100mg capsules, 3 at a time, twice a day)

AND

泻痢停片(xiè lì tíng piàn)
(150mg? tablets, 2 at a time, twice a day)

Anyway, I thought I'd put this in here so that people might find it when they search.

Miss especially

- My favorite candy "Drop" it's called black liquirish in English I think and can't find it anywhere.
- Decent Cheese, most cheese here tastes awful Sad
- Chocolate springles for your breakfast
- No "Kroket, Frikandel, bitterbal" available in China

Really start missing my favorites food and candy. Especially after a while. Fortunately there are substitutes, but I would really like to eat a kroket,

Ivo

Post subject: Deodorant and beaches

I heard about the lack of deodorants in Shanghai. I stocked up in HK. HK is a great deodorant destination! Also, miss beaches. No place to tan and watch the world go by. But I heard there's gonna be a man-made beach in Shanghai later (with imported sand).

Miss the nice junk trips from Hong Kong, pickles, deodorant, popping up in a bar back home knowing everybody, shouting at other drivers and they understand, hanging out in the football pub back home, newspapers and magazines, a big shopping place for music cd's and books, tanning beds, the woods, television series from back home, prank calls just dialing up any local number, playboy subscription in my mailbox, going to the hairdresser without being afraid getting messed up, sitting in a beer garden or cafe watchin people passing by, bbq at a lake ... but then if I really wanted that I just could move my ass back home ...

If there are very specific things you like, try to bring them. We made a trip to costco and stocked up on things like cold medication, tylenol, vitamins, deoderant, feminine hygene items, etc. Most things you can find here, its just the specific brands that may be pricey or harder to find. Bring a stock of reading material, books and magazines aren't so easy to get. When we return to the US we will plan to get some baking supplies, you'd never guess how hard it is to find a cookie sheet in this city! I will plan to bring back several bottles of wine, especially champagne (really pricey here), some food items (non-perishables or at least not fresh), and more of the above. Other things you learn to live without or treat as luxuries. You never really appreciate some things until they are gone.

I have to agree with Ivo that I miss cheese. The chinese cheese here is all kraft style and everything else is imported and expensive.
I also miss some of the candies (especially sour candies) back home.
Carrefour is starting to sell some of the canned food i use to miss, but the price is still a little bit higher than Chinese canned goods.
I would also suggest buying medicine and bringing over, i seem to have trouble buying medicine for sinuses and allergies.
Actually in Shanghai almost everything can be found, the question is if you are willing to pay for the price.

Cheers

So true, willing to pay the price,

Too bad those Gummybears cost like 40RMB for 100 grams or so . I can buy a completly bag of them back in my hometown.

Fortunately Snickerbars are available in Shanghai now, still missing in Nanchang or other cities Rolling Eyes ,

I'm honestly not looking to piss off littlefox and Co. This is a genuine post from the heart. Chill babes.

I miss genuine smiles. The kind that have no profit motive behind them. The ones that warm the room and make a person think of good times past. Apart from my girlfriend, one very good Chinese friend and assorted laowai's, I've seen precisely one of these smiles in the last two years. She was from Thailand.

Damn, sounds weak when I write it. But that's what I miss, decent, friendly people who want to talk to you because you are you and they actually give a flying f*ck.

OK, this seems like a nice thread, so if anyone wants to flame me for that, please do it privately.

Thanks. I need another drink...
