Post subject: Baking Soda and Cuban Cigars

I'm not going to be using them together but my wife has been looking for baking soda and vanilla and hasn't been able to find them. Not even at City Supermarket. I'm looking for Cuban Cigars. Any ideas out there?

carrefour stocks baking soda and so does city I think. City definitely stocks vanilla essence (although it is sporadic) don't know about vanilla pods tho. As for cuban cigars - have you tried the wine and tobacco shops around? I think they stock cigars, carrefour in gubei has started stocking cigars too - don't know about cuban tho.

Thanks Bellabella. I'll check out Carrefour and hopefully will kill two birds with one stone. City definitely didn't have the baking soda and I haven't seen any cubans at the tobacco shops (only cigarettes).

You can find any cuban cigar you want at an illegal-ie smuggled-tobacco shop down an alley on the north side of Guangyuan Lu between Huashan Lu and Tian Ping Lu in XuJia Hui. It is about a 5 minute walk from Tai Ping Yan (Packific) department store. Hunt around a bit -or follow your nose. If you find it you will be pleasantly surprised...

Cuban cigars can be found many places. You can avoid the sketchy back alleys and go to the duty-free in the airport. Or many of the upscale dept. stores sell Cubans (e.g. Oriental mall is XJH or in Plaza 66). We bought several boxes of Cohibas recently to celebrate the birth of our baby

Thanks everyone for the input.

PeterPaul, the Cubans are illegal here are they? I didn't think they needed to smuggle them in.

Thanks Cata. I'll do my best and call you in a jam. Maybe we'll ask for a few boxes in our next care package and I'll drop one off for you if you're getting low. My wife is trying to bake banana bread.

What can I expect for prices at Plaza 66 Maham Ye? Congratulations on the birth of your baby.

Cubans are not illegal here... another place you can get them is is the cigar shops in hotels (Portman used to have one... probably still do) and at some of the cigar bars around town. Department stores also have them in the tobacco area.

The baking soda is at City... but they often hide it. Rather than with the baking goods, it is often with the cleaning products. Will be packaged in a "fridge pak" ... but it is exactly the same, just has ventilated sides.

Appleman,
BTW, I think I saw a baking soda at SOGO (i think they call it Jiu Guang in Chinese), in front of JingAn park, & next to JingAn temple.
Metro line2 , JingAn temple, exit 2.

Take a look at the supermarket underground.
Check it out. As it's Japanese supermarket, there are big choices.

Thanks for your kindness. Actually I bought mine in Thailand.
Oh wow, banana cake. I know a good recipe too, it needs baking soda as well. I'm a big banana cake fan. We can swap the recipe if you want.
