Post subject: For all you spy lovers ...

Connery to do 007 video game. And Brosnan may yet return for another Broccoli production, or go with Sony for a straight-faced remake of Casino Royale.

The old 007 films were good!

Quote:
Connery Reprising 007 for Game

Never say never...Sean Connery is bonding again.

More than two decades since wrapping his last go-round as everyone's favorite martini-swilling super agent, James Bond, the Oscar winner has signed on to reprise his role as 007 for Electronic Arts' upcoming From Russia With Love video game.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Connery will record dialogue and lend his likeness to the game which will be based on MGM's 1963 film classic, the second of six Bond outings for the thespian and the first bona fide hit in the franchise.

For anyone who thought Connery was done playing 007, especially after coming out of retirement for an unofficial (i.e. non-Broccoli-produced ) remake of Thunderball, 1983's Never Say Never Again, it's hardly a license to shill.

"As an artist, I see this as another way to explore the creative process," Connery told the Reporter. "Video games are an extremely popular form of entertainment today, and I am looking forward to seeing how it all fits together."

No word how much EA is paying Sir Sean, but Goldfinger would no doubt be proud.

Connery isn't the only Bond vet to get back into the spy biz. Electronic Arts has created several games inspired by the long-running series, among them 2004's GoldenEye: Rogue Agent, which told the story from the villain's point of view. It featured the voice and likenesses of Christopher Lee, reprising his role as Francisco Scaramanga, Bond's nemesis in The Man With the Golden Gun, as well as Judi Dench, who played M. in the Pierce Brosnan installments.

In related news, Webzine Dark Horizons is reporting that Sony (which recently purchased longtime Bond distributor MGM) is now courting Brosnan, who did his own game, EA's Bond 007: Everything or Nothing, to play the suave secret agent again in Bond 21, reportedly a straight-faced adaptation of Ian Fleming's Casino Royale, as opposed to the early spy spoof that was the 1967 version starring Woody Allen, Peter Sellars, and David Niven as dueling 007s.

Everyone from Clive Owen and Eric Bana to Hugh Jackman has been mentioned for the part after Brosnan bailed late last year. But according to the Website, talk of a rift between the Die Another Day star and producers may have been a game to keep interest in the series going until a new script was ready.

"[They] are still going through the motions of bluffing each other: an echo of the old poker game that Cubby Broccoli (former Bond boss) went through with Roger Moore. Moore frequently announced that he wouldn't be back," one anonymous insider told DarkHorizons.com. "The mood around Sony is that Brosnan will be back."

As apparently will Connery—in another medium.

From Russia With Love, the video game, is scheduled to hit stores this fall and will be available for PlayStation 2, Xbox and Game Cube.

Ah, I think I saw it at the dvd/vcd store on HuaShan Lu, southeast corner of JiaoTong DaXue. For the life of me, I can't remember the cross street. The same corner as CoffeeLox.

You need to go below ground for the shop. Their better titles they don't often have displayed, but just ask the staff.

I agree.

"Die Another Day" made me dizzy. Didn't feel like seeing another one.

But I did like "Tomorrow Never Dies," with Michelle Yeoh, simply/only because she was in it.

I've really enjoyed Brosnan as Bond so hopefully he will be invited back to do the next one. The movies have provided the correct blend of humour and serious spy sh1t.

And yes, Michelle Yeoh was a highlight of 'tomorrow never dies'.

Shanghai Underground is talking about the shop on the corner of Huashan Rd and Guang Yuan Xi Rd. It's a great little dvd shop.

wow, only 160 for a 20 disc set??? dont sets usually cost more? ok, I gotta go DVD hunting then. I also like mostly the Connery movies, but overall the 007 series is still worthwhile and so I will just have to hunt down the whole set.

But it was way cool that michelle yeoh played a strong Bond girl. Smile But then again it was facing Pierce Brosnan so...Surprised
