Post subject: Being unemployed with a Z visa.

I have a valid Z visa from my previous employer up to Feb 2006.
I recently handed over my appartment, went for vacations for a month and now just arrived back in Shanghai to my new apartment. I have quit this company while on vacations and now I am not employed, however still holding the Z visa, which I used to enter China.

Wondering what would be your suggestion.

Should I change my visa from Z to another kind of visa (if yes, which kind?) I don't want to harm my previous employers by being caught with a Z visa without working for them. I imagine they would be liable to a fine if this happens.

Since I have changed apartments I presume I need to register with the police right? Does this imply in any risk to me being out of my job and holding a Z visa?

What's your suggestion?

Your help appreciated.

tks, rgds.

Post subject: simple facts

you are simply being too paranoid.

you dont need to change your visa at all from a Z visa to any other type, even if you have left your company that got the Z visa for you. Just keep the Z visa, until you either get another job, or leave China, or it simpley expires after which you need to have either left the country, or organised another visa. There's no pentaly to either you or the company. So chill out!

also you are theoritically meant to inform the PSB about your change of residence, but if you moved apartments within the same building then don't bother wasting your time, also even if you don't inform the PSB after your first move you won't get into hot water really. Also they don't get invloved in checking your employment status. They simply do adminstrative functions in a real sense, doting i and crossing t's.

Chill out baby this is China...
