Post subject: Registering residence in Pudong

I am moving to Pudong close to Century Park, wondering if anyone knows where is the police station there to get registered and pick up the yellow paper?

Also, my landlord is worried that I am taking the lease contract with me. He thinks there will be "taxes" that will be incurred in the lease. Does anyone know about this?

He is actually threatening me with increasing the rent if there are any "taxes" that he must pay.

I understand that this is a very good trick to hold my deposit.

Scum.

Your help appreciated.

Your land lord need to pay tax only if you are asking for a receipt for the rent.

Even if rent receipt is required by you, there is a way out and your land lord need not pay any tax. Your real estate agent should be able to sort this out.

Ask your land lord about the police station in that area. You are suppose to collect yellow paper (temporary residence permit) within 48 hours of entring the country. Failing which there is a fine. A max fine of RMB 500 and a minimum fine of RMB100.

In case you have delayed do not worry. Just tell the police man that you were not aware of this rule and he'll charge you the minimum amount.

Thanks for the information on PSB registration. However, I have a question concerning moving, once a person is in the country. Suppose a person - who shall remain unidentified, comes to Shanghai on an L Visa, then registers at a hotel and gets a certified copy of the residence there, then rents an apartment in another district. What are the rules about re-registering in the district where the apartment is?

The person indeed was automatically registered by the hotel within the required deadline when entering the country, but needs to know if and when he should re-register if:

A) he holds an L Visa
B) he is merely moving to another residence

Some websites say you don't have to get a temporary residence card if you are here on an L Visa. Others don't address the above scenario. If a person does have to register for a new residence, what are the deadlines and associated fines?

Your assistance on this is greatly appreciated.

ctonious,

In case you still need this, yes you need to register your new residence with the PSB. You'll need to bring your previous yellow form with you to register your new address.

You need to re-register if you enter China on a new visa OR if you move.
