Go to ipodlounge.com and read the review for a replacement battery that you can order online and install yourself. There is a link to the site to order. In the U.S., if you take it to an Apple store, they will charge you $100US to replace. If you buy a replacement battery and install yourself (I think the company is called New Generation), it only costs $25US and it is really easy. They give you tools to open up the Ipod and the instructions to install are very good. Also, the replacement batteries give you at least double the battery life of the originals. I'm not sure if they ship to China as I did mine back in the U.S. |

Thanks Joe, seem hardly to trust shipment to China as the battery not an easy hardware that maybe from the delivery drop it. Open to another suggestion |

Another suggestion...
What about asking someone that is going to the US to pick up one battery for you and when they get back to Shanghai they deliver it to you?
A number of users here go to the US once per month...
Just wondering....
Which brings another idea: we should have a corner here where travellers could post where they are going and other users could ask them to bring whatever they need from the traveller's destination.
In the end everybody wins I guess....
Or?
It's all about having visibility... |

I've heard HK Plaza will do it. I've got some friends that said they replaced it for free. Give it a shot. |

When you see this battery and the way that it is packaged, you will see that it is no big deal if the box or even the battery itself is dropped.
Has anyone actually personally gone to Plaza 66 and had theirs changed for free and can tell us how it went? |

You can buy ipods almost everywhere in Shanghai. Would be very surprising if you cannot change the batteries anywhere in the city and need to go to HK or the USA! Does sound like a real problem... most likely this reflects some expats communication problems. I dont have an ipod, but I would suggest you go to any shop selling them (for example I have seen many in Metro City, Xujiahui). Bring a Chinese friend or staff with you if needed. |
