Have your computer scanned for viruses. Sounds like a trojan to me.

My computer scans several times daily for trojans / viruses. The reason I think its not a virus is that the only strange thing happened with SHexpat so far. I'm minding my own business, reading someones post and all of a sudden, there is some typing in the quick reply section, very slow typing as if its being done externally through some kind of program.

First it looks like ... and the dots blinking, then up comes a word, then ... again and another word. Then I try scrolling up, and the thing is like going opposite ......

Very strange indeed. The virus software / firewall program is shi*t. Time to install me linksys router for a hard firewall protection

Download hijack this, best scanner and fixer, and it's FREE, only that you have to know what file to suspect.

It could be some legitimate trojan like pcAnywhere as well, someone in the house wants to play a game with ya...

Just a word of caution bougie, HiJackThis is a powerful prog. It basically logs every system call, linked library, and running application. If you disable / delete the wrong one, you could really hose your system. Best plan of attack is go to housecall.trendmicro.com and do the free online virus scan (nothing is actually permanently saved to your HD). Secondly make sure Windows is up-to-date (I assume that's what you are using). If you have XP, make sure the firewall is on. I would say lastly run HiJackThis, and only then, post your results to the HiJackThis forum to have "experts" let you know what's legit and what's not.

I have heard of this before. In fact it happen to me. It is a sort of comical situation; when you find out what is happening you will laogh. If it is the same symptom as occured on my machine, and it sounds like it is, what is happening is this: the microphone is open, and there is an audio translation program running in MS word; this is picking up random noise or the noise from a radio and translating this into key-strokes, and the resulting words are appearing on your screen. It seems spooky, and as if it is occuring by itself, and then the only seemingly logical explanation is that someone has hacked ito your box. But, is likely not the case. Search www.experts-exchange.com or the microsoft site for an explanation of this phenomena and how to get rid of it. The solution involves disabling one ofthe options in Word or changing the start-up options or whatever, I have forgotten the details. It is happening because MS turns on this feature by default in some cases, etc., and it is running a process without you knowing it.
Lots of laughs. Had me worried about the same things that you are worried about for a while until we figured it out. The damn thing was picking up CNN broadcasts from the background noise and typing out every fourth word...
