| Post subject: Anyone moved your pet to SH yourself? |
I mean without the help of international pet relocation companies.
I was thinking to bring my 4-legged princess as excess baggage and do the documentation myself. The requirements are straightforward and easily done. But according to the professional movers, the rules in China are often loosely written and subject to individual intepretation so if we're unlucky, the customs officer may find trouble. Any of you did the move yourself successfully? Pls share. |

I moved my cat here last August. Supposedly the restrictions might have become more tight since then.
I did all of th documentation in the US and I brought her under my seat on board. United is one of the only airlines that allows this.
When I got here, I checked "animal" for items to declare. I think the agent was half asleep, she barely read the form, so I walked through with my cat in a shoulder bag/pet carrier. I really think she didn't notice because another friend came in that day and had to have her cat kept at the airport for a week for money and documents to be processed. She ended up having a chinese person help her lower the amount ($50) and she was able to leave with her cat, but it was after a traumatic week of traveling back and forth to the airport.....
so, I think it is true that it depends, but you will be able to bring your pet in, it will probably happen easily, but if it doesn;t it will still happen...
I hope this helps at all |

That would be my worst nightmare! You are so lucky.
That's for the reply, I'd better not take any chances then. |
