Post subject: Badminton, anyone? (Vegetarian players welcome, too!!!)

We're new in town and wanting to know if any expats/locals get together for badminton. I want to learn it a bit more seriously, and to upgrade terminology --- like saying shuttlecock and not birdie!

Perhaps there are female expats interested in getting together during the week for this? In the US, badminton is not really taken seriously, but I've always thought it fun and a great workout, as well.

Post here or PM me, if you have interest.

Ababay: I bet you are a very good player; are you patient, too?! Smile

Turtle: hopefully we can find a time that's good for everyone. Afternoons are good for me, too.

Aquagirl, I have no idea where to play. I know there are courts throughout the city.

Does anyone know of any courts that are centrally located?

GC well, if we have a cookout afterwards...! Wink
(i have no idea, i thought that was funny too. glad to see we are not discriminated against everywhere Wink ) oh, and what is your signature from, GC?

suamei, so we meet again, my veggie friend!
i have no idea where to play with courts. there are tennis courts somewhere not too far from me (nanchang lu), but i don't know if they are ok for badmitton. We could just play at a park, sort of free form for right now. i just want to get out there and play something! i need exercise!! (anyone else going crazy here?)

my schedual is flexible, so count me in for whenever...

I dont play but they have badminton courts at the Shanghai Indoor Stadium (right next to the rock climbing area).

Not quite sure how it works in terms of reserving the court.
They share the same office as the rock climbing center... try calling if you speak the lingo: 64265178

What about location, Ababay? Aquagirl said she is going to ask at the Shanghai Indoor Stadium on Monday. Do you have any other ideas? It would be really cool (literally) to have an indoor place to play in the summer, so the idea of indoor court sounds great for hot weather.

I'm also glad you're patient, Ababay! I want to learn the rules for badminton, but also keep it fun and enjoy the play and exercise, like Aquagirl said above.

When we've really got our act together, Aquagirl, we could do a veggie cookout afterwards! (Grilled eggplant... tomatoes and mushrooms on skewers, etc....?!) Wink

sorry, i ain't going to Pudong! I did check out the Shanghai Stadium though. it kind of looks like you could just walk in and play if you have your own rackets and birdie (sorry, i blush everytime i say shuttlecock!).
it took me like 30 minutes to get shoes that fit for rock climbing, so i wasn't feeling up to trying to ask about the badmitton. maybe someone who speaks chinese could call? or we could just show up and see?

any other places to check out? Anyone near Fuxing Park or the like?

If you are playing badminton, please email me at pheonix_rising1@hotmail.com with the subject heading "Let's play badminton already!". I just arrived in Shanghai, and I brought my racket. Unfortunately, I did not have time to buy some birdies before I left *sigh* If I play with someone, could you please bring an extra container of birds (Yellow yonex 300 prefered). I'll be happy to pay for it.

I have been in Shanghai for 4 days, and I would like to get out of my motel and do something. Someone please email meee!! (unless you are in Pudong! Isn't the airport in that section of Shanghai. It's too far!) hehehe

I wish I could organize it, but I don't know anything about Shanghai and its districts. I will just pay the kind taxi man to take me there (except Pudong!). If any of you are playing, please let me know and maybe I can tag along. I am sure it would be fun:)
