Post subject: how to transfer moneny from us to china

Greetings all.

i m currently a freelance translator in guangzhou. my client from Utah, Us needs to know how to transfer the payment to my private account in Bank of China.

how much would the remitting bank or correspondent bank charge on the transference serive? I consulted Bank of China and they said they r not sure how much the service charge could be. last time my client in italy transferred $50 to me but the service charge was $17 which i think is too much.

or, will mailing a check to me be a more convenient and cost-effective way?

Appreciated very much for your answers.

better maill a check for anything under USD$1k. i paid a total of more than 2% for t/t'ing less than USD$2k.
the transaction fee is lower if you have your US counter-part accumulate your compensation and wire you a lump sum.
the real cost you pay for a t/t: sender's bank fee + midway interbank fee + boc fee. don't ask me why, it's just way of life.
since you are getting money, i think it is at least 1% at cost.
so sending a check is the most practical way for you. more hassle for them, but what the heck, they hired you Smile
