Okay...
Jack Daniels
Vodka
Malibu (in the summer)
Jaeigermeister
Drinks
Jack and Coke
Vodka and Coke
Singapore Sling
Chilled Jeager
Parish Priest (vodka, Kahlua, Guiness, coke)
Margarita on the rocks, with the proper salt
151 Strawberry Daquari
Pina Colada (but only when on a beach, in the afternoon)
Now I have some questions...
1. Why does the Happy Hour start at 7:00? Don't they traditionally start at 5:00pm so people can come after work in the hopes that they will stay longer? And why is it only beer????
2. Why is the free drink for ladies on Thursdays assigned? Why not let them chose which drink they would like?
3. Are you primarily catering towards men? I ask because all of the posts have included the bit about "friendly young girls"... Even if you are, it kind of cheapens the women.
Anyway. Best of luck!! |

I currently seem to like things in tall glasses. Cosmopolitans, Jaffas, Butterscotch martinis, vanilla vodka/cranberry martinis . . . Strawberry (or mango) margaritas in the summertime. Lime daquiris.
Of course, it all goes out the window when the shots are go on the bar! Had a delicious coffee-based shot at the Pudong Blue Frog the other night . . . |

Freesoul, you sound like just another confused local bar, desperate for the 'laowai' business, yet clueless about how to get it.
Some thoughts for you. . .
A bar in which the bar management has to solicit on the Internet for information on what people like to drink does not sound very international.
A bar with "Friendly young girl staffs with fluent English" doesn't sound like it could also be a "casual, comfortable home bar". I don't know about the other posters here, but my home doesn't have any freindly young female stuff.
Any bar called 'Free Soul' isn't to be trusted. In fact it probably deserves to be firebombed. |

Kiwi has a point, wolfy. When advertising "Friendly young girl staff" my first thought is Julu Lu. And the happy hour/ladies night drinks are very limiting. If FreeSoul is asking for advice then that's what they're getting.
curmudgeon! I can only picture some ticked off old sailor yelling that word.

In answer to some uninformed opinions on here I just wanna say I've been down to freesoul and it's a pretty cool bar. Sure, it might be unexpected to find it, but I had a great time swiggin beers and playin pool & foosball. And no. It's NOT a girly bar. Just a good neighborhood hangout. Check it out if you're near Fahuazhen & Yanan Lu. |

Perfection is easy. Why 90 percent of the bars in Shanghai cant make a decent cocktail is beyond me.
Get a clean 16-20 oz. tumbler. Fill halfway with ice. Fill a little over half the glass with decent, drinkable vodka (nothing below Absolut). Fill to the top with cold tonic water- youre looking for a 50/50 mix of liquids. Squeeze a fresh, clean wedge of lime. Throw in a stirer. |

Need to come back into this thread and say that I think Free Soul is working to make the bar a success or at least listen to potential customers. I haven't been there, but FreeSoul responded via PM to all my questions in a very professional manner.
Enough so that I may have to go try it one night. |
